Max Verstappen led the Drivers' Championship by 34 points from teammate Sergio Pérez, with Charles Leclerc third, a further 9 points behind. Red Bull Racing led the Constructors' Championship ahead of Ferrari by 63 points and Mercedes by 124 points. The weekend was also overshadowed by reports of fan harassment directed at other spectators in the grandstands, which drew condemnation from multiple drivers. Lewis Hamilton described the reported behaviour as "disgusting," Verstappen called it "shocking," and Sebastian Vettel called for lifetime bans for those who harassed other fans.
Qualifying on 8 July determined the grid for the sprint. Q3 was disrupted by two separate incidents: Lewis Hamilton spun on a fast lap, bounced through the gravel, and struck the barrier, necessitating a red flag; after the session resumed, George Russell also spun at turn 10 and hit the barrier, causing a second red flag. Verstappen qualified on pole ahead of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. Sergio Pérez initially qualified fourth but had all his Q2 and Q3 lap times deleted for exceeding track limits in Q2, demoting him to 13th.
The sprint on 9 July was shortened by one lap to 23 due to an aborted start caused by a stopped car. Fernando Alonso was unable to start after his car was left on the grid with wheel blankets attached; he was wheeled to the pit lane but an electrical issue prevented him from participating. Zhou Guanyu suffered an engine problem at the end of the formation lap, requiring a second formation lap; he started from the pit lane. Verstappen won the sprint from Leclerc and Sainz, with Russell fourth and Pérez fifth. Albon received a five-second penalty for forcing Norris off the track and later retired from a collision with Vettel.
The 71-lap Grand Prix on 10 July produced an early incident at the start. Carlos Sainz challenged Verstappen at turn 1, went wide, and rejoined ahead of Russell before turn 3. Behind them, Russell and Pérez ran side by side into turn 4; their cars made contact, spinning Pérez into the gravel. Pérez dropped to the back, pitted to assess damage, and later retired. The stewards judged Russell at fault and gave him a five-second penalty, dropping him temporarily to 19th after his penalty stop.
Leclerc attacked Verstappen from second and passed him for the lead at turn 3 using DRS on lap 12. The two exchanged positions at each round of pit stops as both teams pursued aggressive strategies: Leclerc repassed Verstappen by lap 33, then again by lap 53, each time after catching and overtaking him following a pit stop. Carlos Sainz, running a similar strategy to Leclerc and approaching Verstappen's DRS range, suffered a power unit failure and retired on lap 57. A virtual safety car was deployed, and both Leclerc and Verstappen pitted for fresh medium tyres.
Despite reporting issues with his car in the closing laps, Leclerc held off Verstappen to win. Verstappen finished second and claimed the point for fastest lap. Hamilton was third, with Russell recovering to fourth. Esteban Ocon was fifth, and Mick Schumacher took sixth — a career-best result for the German driver at the time. Fernando Alonso completed the top ten on the final lap, overtaking Valtteri Bottas.
Following the result, Leclerc moved back ahead of Pérez into second in the Drivers' Championship with 170 points. Verstappen increased his lead over his nearest rival to 38 points. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull maintained their lead while Ferrari narrowed the gap from 63 to 56 points.
