2025 Singapore Grand Prix

The 2025 Singapore Grand Prix (officially the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2025) was a Formula One motor race held on 5 October 2025 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Marina Bay, Singapore. It was the eighteenth round of the 2025 Formula One World Championship and the 16th running of the Singapore Grand Prix as a World Championship round. George Russell of Mercedes converted his pole position into victory, ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris.

McLaren clinched its tenth Constructors' Championship at this event — its second in a row — the first time McLaren had won consecutive Constructors' titles since 1991. It was also the first Singapore Grand Prix to feature the crowning of a World Constructors' Champion, and the first Singapore Grand Prix to record no retirements.

Going into the weekend, Oscar Piastri led the Drivers' Championship with 324 points, 25 points ahead of teammate Norris and 69 ahead of Verstappen. McLaren led the Constructors' Championship with 634 points, ahead of Mercedes (290 points) and Ferrari (286 points). Red Bull had already been eliminated from Constructors' title contention following the preceding Azerbaijan Grand Prix, for the second season in a row.

McLaren required just 13 points at Singapore to seal the title, regardless of where Mercedes or Ferrari finished. A race win or podium for either McLaren driver would suffice; otherwise, both drivers would need to finish ahead of both rival teams.

The grid was as published in the season entry list with two exceptions: Yuki Tsunoda held the Red Bull Racing seat originally belonging to Liam Lawson, who had been demoted back to Racing Bulls from the Japanese Grand Prix onward; and Franco Colapinto retained his Alpine seat, having replaced Jack Doohan from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix onward on a rotating basis confirmed to continue race-by-race.

The pit lane was widened by one metre, allowing the pit lane speed limit to be raised from 60 km/h to 80 km/h.

The FIA declared a heat hazard ahead of the weekend after a forecast predicted a heat index greater than 31 °C at some point during the race. Teams could equip drivers with cooling systems — with the minimum weight limit raised by 5 kilograms — or add 0.5 kilograms of ballast in the cockpit. Tyre supplier Pirelli brought the C3, C4, and C5 compounds (designated hard, medium, and soft respectively).

Three free practice sessions were held across 3–4 October. The first session on 3 October was topped by Fernando Alonso ahead of Charles Leclerc and Verstappen; Alexander Albon had a brake fire early in the session and did not set a time. The second session, later that day, was topped by Piastri ahead of Isack Hadjar and Verstappen. A red flag was caused by Russell hitting the wall at turns 16–17 and breaking his front wing; another followed when Liam Lawson crashed at turn 16 and stopped at the pit entrance. Ferrari were fined €10,000 after Leclerc was released from the pit lane early and collided with Norris, damaging the McLaren's front wing. The third session on 4 October was topped by Verstappen ahead of Piastri and Russell; a red flag occurred when Lawson lost the car at turn 7 and hit the wall.

Qualifying was held on 4 October at 21:00 local time. Russell took pole — his second of the 2025 season — with Verstappen second and Piastri third. Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz qualified 12th and 13th but were both disqualified for a DRS infringement; they were allowed to race at the stewards' discretion. Albon was required to start from the pit lane as his car had been modified under parc fermé conditions. Pierre Gasly qualified 18th but also started from the pit lane after his car was modified under parc fermé.

The race was held on 5 October at 20:00 local time and ran for 62 laps.

Russell led from pole into turn 1, repelling Verstappen who had started on soft tyres in an attempt to take the lead. Norris gained two positions on the opening lap but sustained front wing damage after colliding with McLaren teammate Piastri and the back of Verstappen's car when he went too deep into turn 3, dropping Piastri from third to fifth. In the midfield, Gabriel Bortoleto and Lance Stroll made contact at turn 1. Albon and Gasly started from the pit lane.

Piastri suffered a 5.2-second pit stop. Alonso suffered a slow 9.2-second stop in the Aston Martin. Russell won comfortably ahead of Verstappen and Norris; Norris's third place and Piastri's fourth were sufficient to secure the Constructors' Championship for McLaren. Kimi Antonelli finished fifth, Leclerc sixth, and Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Oliver Bearman, and Sainz completed the top ten. Hadjar suffered a power issue for most of the race and finished outside the points despite having qualified eighth. Hamilton received a five-second post-race time penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to eighth in the final classification.

McLaren secured the 2025 Constructors' Championship with 650 points. Mercedes extended their lead over Ferrari in the battle for second — 325 points to 298. In the Drivers' Championship, Piastri retained his lead by 22 points over Norris and 63 points over Verstappen.
