The 2026 Formula One season is characterised by the most sweeping technical regulation changes since the hybrid era began in 2014. New power unit regulations remove the MGU-H while substantially increasing the electrical output of the MGU-K from 160 bhp (120 kW) to 470 bhp (350 kW), reducing the combustion engine's share accordingly. Active aerodynamics replace the Drag Reduction System, introducing an overtake mode that can be deployed when a pursuing driver is within one second of the car ahead. Cars are narrower, shorter in wheelbase, and lighter than those used from 2022 to 2025. All teams run Pirelli tyres and a fully sustainable fuel developed in partnership with Formula One.
Eleven constructors compete in 2026. Cadillac enters Formula One as the eleventh team for the first time, initially using Ferrari power units, with a view to a General Motors in-house unit from 2029. Audi competes as a full works outfit following the acquisition of Sauber in 2024, having raced as Kick Sauber with Ferrari engines in 2024 and 2025. Three new engine manufacturers entered the sport for 2026: Audi, Honda through its Honda Racing Corporation subsidiary supplying Aston Martin exclusively, and Ford through a partnership with Red Bull Powertrains. Alpine moved to Mercedes customer power units, ending Renault's engine supply role for the first time since 2000.
The financial regulations also changed significantly, with the team operational cost cap rising from 135 million to 215 million US dollars to account for inflation and the inclusion of previously exempted expenditure categories.
Through the mid-season rounds, Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) established himself as the dominant force in the Drivers' Championship with four consecutive Grand Prix victories at China, Japan, Miami, and Canada. Antonelli also won the Monaco Grand Prix, becoming the youngest winner in Monaco's history and the youngest driver to achieve a grand chelem — pole position, fastest lap, leading every lap, and victory — in the championship's history.
George Russell (Mercedes) won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and remained a championship contender. Lewis Hamilton secured his first victory for Ferrari at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, with the podium of Hamilton, Russell, and Lando Norris representing the first all-British Formula One podium since the 1968 United States Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing claimed their first podium of the season in Canada. McLaren's Norris and Oscar Piastri maintained their presence in the standings despite early-season reliability issues.
The 2026 Qatar Grand Prix entry list includes all eleven 2026 constructors. McLaren-Mercedes fields Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Mercedes enters George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.
