Alemannenring

The Alemannenring was a temporary street circuit laid out on public roads in Singen (Hohentwiel), Baden-Württemberg, in southern Germany. It operated from 13 September 1991 until 17 September 1995 and was best known as an annual venue for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM), which it hosted at every event during those five seasons. With a stated spectator capacity of 45,000, it was one of the larger-attendance temporary venues in German motorsport of the era.

The Alemannenring measured 2.800 km in length and 1.740 miles, making it compact by DTM standards. The usable track width was 14 metres for most of its course, narrowing to 9 metres on the start/finish straight where the pitlane encroached. The layout comprised eight turns: seven 90-degree corners and one 180-degree hairpin. A small chicane was incorporated on the Robert Gerwig Strasse section approaching the end of the main straight. Built on four-lane public roads running through an industrial area of Singen, the circuit drew frequent comparisons to the Norisring in Nuremberg on account of its street profile, overall length, and identical corner count.

The DTM was the headline series at the Alemannenring throughout its existence, visiting once each year from 1991 to 1995. The German Formula Three Championship appeared at the circuit from 1992 to 1995. The Porsche Carrera Cup Germany raced there in 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1995. The Austria Formula 3 Cup made a single appearance in 1994.

Lap records at the circuit are documented from three categories. The quickest was set in the Formula Three class by Max Angelelli, who lapped in 1:13.700 in a Dallara F393 at the 1993 German F3 round. The Class 1 touring car record of 1:14.530 was set by Dario Franchitti in a Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse V6 at the 1995 DTM round. The Group A benchmark of 1:18.160 was set by Bernd Schneider in a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo2 at the 1992 DTM event.

In 2009 a civic group known as Alemanni Ring eV sought to bring DTM racing back to Singen, which would have been the first event under the series' rebranded identity as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. The initiative failed after encountering resistance from local authorities and a decision by the DTM organisation not to return to the venue. The group subsequently disbanded.

A community mod recreating the Alemannenring for Assetto Corsa was developed by the modder MoZqUiTo under the banner of ALEMANNENRING Racing eV. The mod reached version 0.5.6 and was distributed through the OverTake.gg platform. According to the creator, the circuit geometry was accurate to within approximately two centimetres, based on official city plans of Singen. The Alemannenring is also included as part of the "DTM/ITC 1995 All Tracks and Cars" championship pack for Assetto Corsa compiled by modder sikjar; users of that pack require a steering lock setting of 360 degrees to navigate the hairpin correctly. The circuit's absence from the active motorsport calendar since 1995 makes these sim racing reproductions the primary means by which contemporary drivers can experience it.
