Dunne began competitive karting at the age of eight, winning national titles in Ireland including the Motorsport Ireland 'IRL' and '0' Plates and the Ironside Trophy. He extended his reach to the Super 1 National Championship in Great Britain and later to mainland Europe, where his standout result was the WSK Champions Cup victory in the OK-Junior class in 2019. His father, Noel Dunne, was a former racing driver who won the Irish Formula Ford F1600 series twice.
Dunne made his single-seater debut in 2021 with Pinnacle Motorsport in the F4 Spanish Championship, scoring a pole position on debut at Spa-Francorchamps. He also contested the ADAC F4 Championship that year with US Racing, finishing eighth and impressing against established competitors.
In 2022, Dunne had an exceptional double campaign. In the Italian F4 Championship with US Racing he finished runner-up to Andrea Kimi Antonelli after a closely fought season featuring multiple victories. Simultaneously he dominated the F4 British Championship with Hitech, setting a new record for most victories in a single season — eleven wins from the campaign — and clinching the title, despite missing the final round to complete his Italian campaign. He added sixteen additional race wins across the two championships that year.
Dunne stepped up to the GB3 Championship in 2023 with Hitech Grand Prix, taking five victories including doubles at Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort. He finished runner-up to Callum Voisin by 18 points. He also contested the 2023 Macau Grand Prix with Hitech Pulse-Eight, qualifying for the front rows of the qualification race and finishing second before retiring from the main race on lap one.
In the 2024 FIA Formula 3 Championship with MP Motorsport, Dunne scored consistent points and secured a podium at Barcelona, finishing 14th in the drivers' standings with 50 points across a competitive field.
Dunne made the jump to FIA Formula 2 in 2025 with Rodin Motorsport, partnering Amaury Cordeel. He won his first feature race in Bahrain, leading from the front by more than eight seconds. A second feature race victory followed at Imola, briefly putting him at the top of the championship. He took his first Formula 2 pole position in Monaco and added further victories during the season, although a disqualification in Austria and a post-race penalty at Spa cost points. He finished fifth in the drivers' championship at season's end. Dunne re-signed with Rodin for the 2026 season, partnering Martinius Stenshorne.
Dunne joined the McLaren Driver Development Programme in May 2024. He completed test runs in the McLaren MCL60 at Zandvoort and the Circuit of the Americas in 2025, and made his FP1 debut at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix driving Lando Norris's McLaren MCL39, setting the fourth-fastest time 0.224 seconds off the leader. A second practice appearance followed at the Italian Grand Prix. McLaren released him from the programme ahead of the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. In February 2026 he joined the Alpine Formula One team's Driver Academy. Dunne also served as a reserve and development driver for the McLaren Formula E Team during the 2024–25 season, taking part in the Jeddah ePrix rookie session and the Berlin rookie test.
