Andretti Global's parent company, TWG Motorsports, owns Andretti Global, which will collaborate with General Motors starting in 2026. This venture represents Andretti's pursuit of a Formula One entry, following earlier negotiations.

The foundation of Andretti Global traces back to 1993 with the formation of Forsythe/Green Racing by Gerald Forsythe and Barry Green. The team began competing in the CART Indy Car World Series in 1994. In 1995, Barry and Kim Green took over, renaming it Team Green. Michael Andretti purchased a stake in 2002, leading to the team's rebranding as Andretti Green Racing and its entry into the Indy Racing League in 2003. Andretti acquired full control in 2009, and the team was renamed Andretti Autosport. A restructuring in September 2023 led to the rebranding as Andretti Global. In 2024, Michael Andretti sold the team to TWG Global, a holding company led by Mark Walter, with Dan Towriss remaining as co-owner and CEO.

At the end of 2021, media reports indicated that Andretti Autosport was in negotiations to acquire existing Formula One teams, but these discussions did not result in a deal. Mario Andretti, who won the 1978 Formula One World Drivers' Championship with Team Lotus, has expressed support for Andretti's Formula One aspirations.

Andretti Autosport rebranded as Andretti Global in contemplation of adding a Formula One team. In 2022, Michael Andretti submitted an application to the FIA, Formula One's governing body, for an entry. The FIA initially stated it was not looking to expand the grid, and some team officials expressed reservations.

In 2023, Michael Andretti announced a partnership with General Motors, with the Formula One bid to be branded under the Cadillac marque. According to reports, TWG Motorsports, led by Dan Towriss, will manage the Cadillac Formula One team [apnews.com/article/f1-cadillac-indycar-towiss-twg-motorsports-e2b3030dd2cabbeea3cc36bc6c427251]. The FIA approved the move, and following the sale of the team to TWG Global and confirmation from GM, the FIA approved the Andretti-GM bid for a 2026 Formula One entry. Graeme Lowdon was hired as team principal, and an arrangement was made for Ferrari to supply engines temporarily.

In total, the team has won the Indianapolis 500 six times (1995, 2005, 2007, 2014, 2016, 2017), the CART championship in 1995, and the IndyCar Series championship four times (2004, 2005, 2007, 2012). The team has also won the Indy NXT championship seven times (2008, 2009, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024, 2025). Furthermore, Andretti Formula E claimed the Formula E drivers' championship in the 2022โ€“23 season.

Andretti Global competes in the IndyCar Series, Indy NXT, Formula E, and has joint entries in IMSA and the Australian Supercars Championship.

In Formula E, Andretti Formula E has competed since the series' inaugural season in 2014โ€“15. The team secured its first Drivers' Championship in Season 9 (2022โ€“23) with Jake Dennis.

Andretti Autosport also entered the Australian Supercars Championship in 2018 through a shareholding in Walkinshaw Andretti United. In February 2021, Michael Andretti and Michel Jourdain Jr. announced a joint venture, Andretti Jourdain Autosport, to compete in Mexico's Super Copa Championship.

The team has also competed in the American Le Mans Series (2007โ€“2008), U.S. F2000 National Championship (2010โ€“2013), Red Bull Global RallyCross (2014โ€“2018), and Extreme E (2021โ€“2024).
