The facility features three distinct asphalt road course configurations that can be used independently or combined. The full circuit measures 5.729 km (3.560 miles) through 19 turns, incorporating the north and south sections joined at the main straight. The north circuit runs 2.350 km (1.460 miles) through 9 turns, while the south circuit covers 3.380 km (2.100 miles) through 15 turns. Crucially, the north and south layouts can operate simultaneously, allowing separate groups of drivers to use each track during the same session — a feature that makes Autobahn unique among Midwest facilities. The main straight measures approximately 1,850 feet. A 0.837 km (0.520 mile) kart circuit operates separately and is open to the public on weekdays.
The terrain is relatively flat, with 19 turns bundled into technical complexes. A hillcrest between Turns 12 and 13 provides brief airtime before a compression. Average lap speeds on the full circuit are approximately 77 mph.
The full circuit lap record is 2:05.542, set by John Edwards in a Swift 016.a during the 2009 Atlantic Championship round. The south circuit record is 1:13.408, set by Keith Grant in a Swift 016.a during the 2021 Atlantic Championship round.
Autobahn has hosted a number of professional series. Major events have included the Atlantic Championship in 2009 and 2021, the Trans-Am Series in 2010, the Star Mazda Championship in 2009 and 2010, the US F2000 National Championship in 2010, the Global MX-5 Cup in 2009 and 2010, the Speed World Challenge GT in 2009, and the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge in 2009. The facility is also regularly rented for manufacturer marketing events and is used by organisations including the SCCA, NASA, Gridlife, the Midwestern Council, and the Porsche Club of America.
The club's own sanctioning body, Autobahn Member Racing, organises competition series in Spec Miata, GT cars, Radical Sportscars, karts, open-wheel cars, rallycross, autocross, and a bracket-style format called Chase Racing. Membership is required for full track access; as of 2025 the full initiation fee is $50,000, with annual dues of $6,600. Members receive unlimited access to the tracks six days per week during the April-to-October season, use of the clubhouse, and the option to purchase plots on-site for private garages and condominiums. A Social/Karting Membership at a lower fee covers social events and kart track access.
The club also operates a driver academy and a teen safety driving programme using a dedicated skidpad. Members have access to a fleet of performance cars during mid-day touring laps.
Notable members have included racing figures Bobby Rahal, Graham Rahal, Cooper MacNeil, Jay Howard, Peter Dempsey, and Tom Bagley. On-site businesses in the paddock area include Eurosport Racing, Team Stradale, Havoc Motorsport, and Turn 3 Motorsport, providing members with direct access to professional race shop services.
