Bassani entered international competition in 2015, competing in the final two rounds of the European Superstock 600 Championship on a Kawasaki ZX-6R with Berclaz Racing, taking a second-place finish in the final round in France and finishing the championship fifteenth overall.
In 2016 he joined the Supersport World Championship with San Carlo Team Italia on a Kawasaki ZX-6R, winning the FIM Europe Cup and placing twelfth overall. He attempted a move to the Moto2 World Championship in 2017 but split with his team after the first four rounds and returned to Supersport as a substitute rider for events in Italy and Spain.
Bassani spent 2018 in the Campionato Italiano Velocità (CIV) on a BMW S1000RR with DMR Racing, finishing fifth overall with a podium. In 2019 he continued in the same class on a Yamaha YZF-R1 with Yamaha Motoxracing, achieving two podiums and finishing eighth. He returned to the Supersport World Championship in 2020 on a Yamaha YZF-R6 with Soradis Yamaha Motoxracing, finishing seventeenth overall.
Bassani made his Superbike World Championship debut in 2021 with Motocorsa Racing aboard a Ducati Panigale V4 R. He achieved a best result of second place at Catalunya, finished second in the Independent Rider trophy, and placed ninth in the overall standings.
He remained with Motocorsa Racing in 2022 and elevated his performance significantly, recording three podium finishes over the season, winning the Independent Rider trophy for the first time, and finishing seventh in the overall championship. It was his strongest campaign to that point and drew attention from larger teams.
In 2023, Bassani continued with Motocorsa Ducati, adding another podium to his tally, successfully defending the Independent Rider trophy, and climbing to sixth in the overall standings — his highest championship position to that point.
For the 2024 season, Bassani left Motocorsa and joined the official Kawasaki Racing Team, switching manufacturer and becoming teammates with Alex Lowes. The move marked a significant step up from independent to factory-backed machinery.
For 2026, Bassani moved to the newly-formed Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, racing the Bimota KB998. The Bimota project represented a high-profile return of the historic Italian brand to premier-class competition using Kawasaki power, and Bassani's appointment as one of its frontline riders reflected his status as an established World Superbike front-runner.
Bassani's consecutive Independent Rider championship wins in 2022 and 2023 represent the most direct measure of his quality relative to the privateer field. His transition from independent Ducati squads to the Kawasaki factory team and then to the revived Bimota project illustrates a career trajectory built on consistent results rather than high-profile machinery. The FIM Europe Supersport Cup victory in 2016 as a teenager signaled early talent, but it was World Superbike that cemented his reputation.
