Barazi-Epsilon

Barazi-Epsilon is a French motorsport organisation based in Le Mans, active as both a racing team and a chassis constructor. It was founded in 2000 under the name Epsilon Sport by engineer Michel Lecomte, emerging from the remnants of Graff Racing's Formula Three operations. Entrepreneur and racing driver Juan Barazi subsequently became co-owner, and the team was renamed Barazi-Epsilon to reflect the partnership.

The team established itself initially in single-seater racing, contesting the French Formula Three Championship and the British Formula 3 Championship. An early landmark came in 2001 when Epsilon Sport won the Light Class in the World Series by Nissan, demonstrating competitive form in formula categories. The team's junior single-seater work continued for several years before it shifted its principal focus toward prototype endurance racing.

Barazi-Epsilon became a regular entrant in the Le Mans Series and, by extension, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team ran Courage C65 prototypes in the early years of its LMP programme, making its Le Mans debut in 2005, where it retired. In 2006 the car finished 21st overall. The team switched to Zytek machinery for its subsequent campaigns: a DNF in 2007 with the Zytek 07S/2, 29th in 2008, and 28th in 2009 with the Zytek 07S.

The most significant sporting result of the programme came in the 2006 Le Mans Series season, when Barazi-Epsilon won the LMP2 class teams' title using a Courage C65 with an AER P07 engine. Juan Barazi himself participated in the endurance programme, and in 2010 he raced for Aston Martin Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an LMP1 Lola B09/60, running fourth overall โ€” and first among petrol-powered cars โ€” before retiring with a blown engine approximately forty minutes from the finish.

The team also contested the Superleague Formula championship, fielding the Olympique Lyonnais entry in 2009 and running entries for Girondins de Bordeaux and Galatasaray in 2010.

Beyond its role as a racing team, Barazi-Epsilon developed the Barazi-Epsilon FR2.0-10, which became the specification chassis for the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC series from 2010 onward, replacing the Tatuus FR2000 that had served those championships since 2000. The car uses a Renault Sport-prepared Renault F4R engine. The organisation also designed the Beta Epsilon Formula Premium, a junior formula car conceived in 2012 for a 2013 series debut, powered by a 1.6-litre Renault engine.

Born 22 January 1968 in Copenhagen and Swiss-educated, Juan Barazi is a lawyer by training and a scion of an ancient Syrian noble family. Outside his role as team co-owner, he is an accomplished historic racing driver. His private collection includes an Aston Martin DB3S, a DB4 GT Zagato, a Ferrari 250LM, a Ferrari 246 Sport Dino, and a Porsche 917. Competing in historic events, he won the Goodwood Revival Tourist Trophy twice in a 1962 Jaguar Lightweight E-Type. He was also Classic Endurance Racing champion in a Porsche 917, and he won the LMS LMP2 title as a competing driver in 2006.
