On 24 August 2021, Cadillac announced it would join IMSA's new GTP class and the FIA World Endurance Championship's Hypercar class for 2023, with Dallara confirmed as the chassis supplier on the same day. Action Express Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing were named as the teams that would campaign the car in IMSA, with Chip Ganassi Racing also taking a single entry into the FIA WEC. The powertrain combined a 5.5-litre 90-degree naturally aspirated V8 with standardised hybrid drivetrain components supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering, Bosch, and Xtrac. Cadillac's sportscar racing programme manager Laura Klauser confirmed in October 2022 that both teams were working together to have three cars prepared in time for the Daytona opener. Testing at Sebring International Raceway and Road Atlanta covered nearly 19,312 km before the car's competitive debut.
For the 2023 IMSA season, Chip Ganassi Racing ran two V-Series.Rs under the numbers #01 and #02 as the factory Cadillac Racing squad, while Action Express Racing campaigned the #31 under the Whelen Engineering Racing banner. The #02 car also raced in the FIA WEC as the sole full-season Cadillac entry. The three livery colours — yellow, blue, and red — were drawn directly from Cadillac's logo.
The car made its debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona alongside new LMDh entries from Acura, BMW, and Porsche. Cadillac ran strongly early but faded toward the end, the leading #01 car finishing third overall. The V-Series.R took its first win in any series at the 2023 12 Hours of Sebring with Action Express Racing, recovering from an early collision with an LMP3 car. That same weekend the WEC entry finished fourth at its championship debut, ten seconds behind the #50 Ferrari 499P in third. Driver Alex Lynn described the results as a fantastic start to the programme.
An additional V-Series.R entered the 2023 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps as preparation for Le Mans, but retired after Renger van der Zande suffered a high-speed accident at Raidillon caused by a suspected power steering failure. At the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, Cadillac returned for the first time in 21 years, having last appeared with the Northstar LMP project in 2002. All three V-Series.Rs participated, and the full-season #2 WEC car finished third overall, running relatively trouble-free a lap behind the Ferrari and Toyota ahead. Richard Westbrook called the podium a great start to the programme.
In IMSA, the V-Series.R went on to win the 2023 Motul Course de Monterey and add podiums at the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen and the Petit Le Mans. The Petit Le Mans result proved decisive, with Cadillac and Action Express Racing claiming the Teams', Drivers', and Manufacturers' Championships after a season-long fight with Acura and its partner teams Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing. In the FIA WEC, the Cadillac drivers finished fifth in the Drivers' Championship with 72 points, and the manufacturer finished fourth with 79 points.
Action Express Racing set a track record in qualifying for the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona with a lap by Pipo Derani, earning pole position. The team led for much of the race and challenged for the overall victory in the final hour but finished second, 2.112 seconds behind the race-winning #7 Porsche 963. Cadillac's WEC programme opened poorly, collecting a disqualification for a technical breach, a tenth-place finish, and a retirement through a high-speed crash in its first three outings.
In IMSA, Chip Ganassi Racing's #01 car contested the GTP standings against the #6 Porsche throughout the year, finishing the season third, five points adrift. The defending champion Action Express Racing entry concluded fourth. Cadillac's IMSA teams combined for eight podiums, four pole positions, two fastest laps, and two wins, the more prominent victory coming at the 2024 Petit Le Mans. In WEC, a pole position at the 2024 6 Hours of Fuji was the programme's highlight.
Chip Ganassi Racing departed ahead of 2025, with Wayne Taylor Racing assuming factory IMSA duties and Jota Sport taking over the WEC programme. Jota's debut was disrupted when both its V-Series.Rs collided during a virtual safety car period. Wayne Taylor Racing's first podium with the car came at the 2025 Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.
At the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jota secured a front-row lockout in Hyperpole qualifying, with Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber taking the top two positions — Cadillac's first ever Le Mans pole. Lynn followed with back-to-back pole positions at the 2025 6 Hours of São Paulo, where the pole-sitting #12 car won, the #38 finishing second ahead of the #5 Porsche. The 1–2 result gave Cadillac its maiden victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
