Formula One is the highest class of open-wheeled motor racing defined by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, motorsport's world governing body. The World Championship season consists of a series of races known as Grands Prix held on purpose-built circuits and, in some cases, closed city streets. Each race winner receives a trophy, and results combine across a season to determine two annual championships — one for drivers and one for constructors. The World Championship for Drivers has been contested since 1950, following agreement on the Formula One standard in 1946. The Constructors' Championship was added for the 1958 season.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins in Formula One history with 106 victories. Michael Schumacher is second with 91, and Max Verstappen is third with 71. Hamilton also holds the distinction of having the longest span between a first and a last win: he won his first Grand Prix at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix and his most recent at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, a span of 19 years and 4 days.

Riccardo Patrese holds the record for the longest gap between any two victories — more than six and a half years between the 1983 South African Grand Prix and the 1990 San Marino Grand Prix. Mario Andretti waited the longest between his maiden win and his second: his first victory came at the 1971 South African Grand Prix, with the next following five years, seven months, and 18 days later at the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix.

Verstappen holds the record for the most consecutive wins, having won ten Grands Prix in succession from the 2023 Miami Grand Prix to the 2023 Italian Grand Prix. He is also the youngest winner in Formula One history, having been 18 years and 228 days old when he won the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix. At the other end of the age spectrum, Luigi Fagioli is the oldest winner, having been 53 years and 22 days old when he won the 1951 French Grand Prix.

The first Grand Prix winner in the World Championship era was Giuseppe Farina, who won the 1950 British Grand Prix. As of the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, 116 of the 782 drivers who have started a Formula One race have won at least one Grand Prix. The most recent driver to score a maiden victory is Kimi Antonelli, who took his first win at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix.

From the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix onwards, gold medals have been awarded to all race victors in addition to event-specific trophies.

Three Grands Prix in the early championship years were won by two drivers sharing a single car: the 1951 French Grand Prix, the 1956 Argentine Grand Prix, and the 1957 British Grand Prix. In each case, both drivers were credited with the race victory, an arrangement that is no longer permitted under current regulations.

The list of Formula One Grand Prix winners includes the results of the eleven Indianapolis 500 races held between 1950 and 1960. These races formed part of the World Championship in its early years despite not being run under Formula One regulations and not being referred to as a Grand Prix. Their inclusion in championship records is acknowledged but noted as a distinct category from conventional Formula One Grands Prix.
