Born in 1995, Todd began his competitive career in motocross and enduro before transitioning to tarmac racing. In 2016 he competed in the National Superstock 600cc Championship, finishing sixth overall and taking race wins at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch. He moved toward road racing in 2017, making his debut at the Skerries 100 and the Ulster Grand Prix, where he earned a podium finish in the Dundrod 150 National Race.
Todd's 2018 Isle of Man TT debut was extraordinary. He became the second-fastest newcomer in the event's history with an average lap speed of 128.379 mph, earning the TT Newcomers Trophy, the TT Privateers Championship, and the RST Star of Tomorrow Award. The performance immediately marked him as a future winner rather than simply a promising newcomer.
In 2019 he won the International Road Racing Championship with dominant victories at Chimay and Frohburg, and claimed his first North West 200 victory in the Supersport class. His TT performances continued to improve, with a sixth-place Senior TT finish at 131.491 mph showing growing pace on the Mountain Course.
Todd topped the Duke Road Racing Rankings in 2022, winning the championship and the Geoff Duke Trophy that season โ recognition as the most accomplished international road racer of the year. In 2023 he earned multiple TT podiums including third in the Superstock race.
The year 2024 proved career-defining. Todd claimed his first Senior TT win, one of the most prestigious prizes in motorcycle road racing, and added the RL360 Superstock race, earning the Joey Dunlop Trophy for the best combined Superbike and Senior TT performance. These victories confirmed his place at the front of the sport.
At the 2025 TT, Todd delivered his most complete showing to date, riding for his own 8TEN Racing team on BMW machinery in Superbike and Superstock, and for Padgett's Racing in Supersport and Supertwin. He won the Superbike TT, leading every lap in a narrow victory over Michael Dunlop by just 1.296 seconds. He also recorded second-place finishes in both Superstock races behind Dean Harrison, and a second in Supertwin Race 2. The Senior TT was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. His three total TT wins by that point cemented his status among the event's elite.
Todd co-owns the 8TEN Racing team alongside multiple-time TT winner Peter Hickman, a partnership that gives him a degree of professional autonomy unusual for a rider of his career stage. The arrangement reflects both his commercial standing and his investment in the team infrastructure around him.
Davey Todd's trajectory from motocross background to TT winner within a decade of road racing represents one of the more compelling sporting developments in the discipline. His early newcomer records, his Duke Rankings title, and his Senior TT and Superbike wins have placed him firmly in the tier of riders expected to contend for multiple further TT victories. His management of the 8TEN Racing structure alongside his riding career adds another dimension to his contribution to the sport.
