Lupton entered competitive stock car racing at Irwindale Event Center in 2010, winning the Langers Juice S-2 Sportsman championship with High Point Racing. Over 14 races that season he recorded three victories, 13 top-fives, and led 65 laps, clinching the title by two points over a teammate. He made limited appearances in the K&N Pro Series West beginning in 2011 before contesting the full 15-race calendar in 2013, recording a win at Evergreen Speedway and finishing fifth in the championship. In 2014 he returned for the full 14-round season, winning at Kern County Raceway Park and finishing second in the standings, 17 points behind champion Greg Pursley, with eight top-fives and 80 laps led — his career best regional series season.
Lupton made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in 2015 with Athenian Motorsports in the No. 25 car, completing eight races and posting a best finish of ninth at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He scored one top-ten from eight starts in that debut season, earning $184,724 in prize money and finishing thirtieth in the standings. He made two further Xfinity starts in 2016, then in 2017 joined JGL Racing in the No. 24 for fourteen races before the team shut down mid-season. He made sporadic Xfinity appearances in 2018 and 2021, and in 2024 drove the No. 15 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for AM Racing across six races, finishing as high as nineteenth at Phoenix.
Over seven seasons Lupton made 47 Xfinity starts in total, recording one top-ten result.
Lupton made his Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway in 2016, driving the No. 93 for BK Racing and finishing 35th. He made three further Cup starts that year: at Daytona 500 qualifying events, at Richmond — where he was caught in an incident with Ryan Newman and finished 25th — and in the Homestead season finale with Go Fas Racing, finishing 39th. His four Cup starts in 2016 gave him an average finish of 32.5 from an average starting position of 38.
Lupton debuted in the Truck Series at Talladega in 2016 in the No. 02 for Young's Motorsports, finishing twelfth. His most productive Truck campaign came in 2019 with DGR-Crosley across six races: he posted one top-five, three top-tens, and led one lap, with an average finish of 14.5 — the strongest single-season performance of his career across all three national series. He made three further Truck starts in 2020, three in 2021, one in 2022, and one at Martinsville in 2024 again for Young's Motorsports. In 16 career Truck starts he recorded one top-five and four top-tens.
Lupton made his ARCA Menards Series debut in 2016 and returned to ARCA in 2020, posting a fourth-place finish — his best national-series result — in that ARCA start. He also made a top-five ARCA Menards East appearance in 2015. He made brief return appearances in the K&N West and ARCA West formats through 2023.
While managing his early national-series schedule, Lupton attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and graduated in 2016 with a degree in finance. His family connection to motorsport is reflected in his car sponsorship at the 2010 Open Competition Friday 50, which listed Lupton Excavation as a partial backer.
