F1 2019 (video game)

F1 2019 is the official video game of the 2019 Formula One and Formula 2 Championships, developed and published by Codemasters. It is the twelfth title in the Formula One series from the studio and the eleventh main series installment, featuring all twenty-one circuits, twenty drivers, and ten teams from the 2019 Formula One World Championship. Codemasters described the game as "the most ambitious release in the franchise's history" at launch. The game is dedicated to the memory of audio developer Tony Porter, Formula One legend Niki Lauda, Race Director Charlie Whiting, and Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert.

F1 2019 was the last entry in the series before Codemasters was acquired by Electronic Arts. Developed over nearly two years by Codemasters' internal studio, the game launched in June 2019 and was praised as a significant step forward for the franchise. Along with earlier entries, F1 2019 was removed from sale on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox stores in April 2022.

The game included DLC focused on the careers of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, incorporating 18 classic Formula 1 cars from the 1972 to 2010 seasons. The anniversary content was created to mark ten years since Codemasters first released the franchise on seventh and eighth generation consoles.

F1 2019 was the first game in the series to implement driver transfers, with AI-controlled drivers capable of switching teams during or at the end of a championship season. These transfers were procedurally generated rather than scripted, adding unpredictability to long-form career modes.

The career mode integration of the FIA Formula 2 Championship was deepened significantly. Rather than a standalone mode, the F2 Feeder Series scenario was embedded in career mode as a set of three short pre-season scenarios designed to generate rivalries that carry forward into Formula One. Two fictional drivers, Lukas Weber (number 70) and Devon Butler (number 71), appear as the player's teammate and rival respectively; either the player or Butler is crowned 2018 F2 Champion at the scenario's conclusion, with both characters graduating to Formula One alongside the player. Butler would go on to return in F1 2021's Braking Point story mode.

The full Formula 2 Championship could be played independently of the career pathway. The game initially launched with the 2018 F2 season's drivers and calendar; the 2019 season content, including a tribute to Anthoine Hubert following his death at the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix weekend, was added via update in September 2019.

Players could design custom liveries โ€” including fictional sponsor branding โ€” for a generic 2019 car in multiplayer modes. Several real-world sponsorship elements were altered or removed in the game due to regulations around gambling advertising and tobacco sponsorship. Racing Point's SportPesa branding was replaced by SpScore.com, and Ferrari's Mission Winnow and McLaren's A Better Tomorrow markings were removed entirely. The 90 Years Ferrari branding was later added in a post-launch update.

F1 2019 received positive reviews from critics. GameSpot praised the Formula 2 car handling and the new career mode dynamics introduced by AI driver transfers. Game Revolution commended the game's content and described the career mode as "a genuinely thrilling highlight." IGN noted it did not always feel like a truly new release but acknowledged the meaningful improvements.

The game debuted at number two in the UK sales charts, behind Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and reached number seven in Australia.
