Gehrsitz was originally scheduled to make his car racing debut in the Lamera Cup at Misano in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic reshuffled the calendar and he instead debuted in the Porsche Super Sports Cup at the Hockenheimring. He made an immediate impression, winning his first two races in GT4 machinery. At the GTC Finale at the same circuit in November, he finished the endurance race in third before being disqualified for an operational error, then recovered to win the sprint race.
For 2021 Gehrsitz stepped up to LMP3 machinery in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, racing for Phoenix Racing alongside Hamza Owega. He qualified second for the opening two rounds, scoring seventh and fourth. His first pole position came at Monza, where he led until handing over to Owega at the midway point, only for a mechanical failure to end the race prematurely. A further pole followed at Spa-Francorchamps, where the pair finished fourth. Gehrsitz missed the season finale and fell to ninth in the final standings. He also made his European Le Mans Series debut at the Portimão season finale, driving for Eurointernational.
Gehrsitz opened 2022 in the Asian Le Mans Series, sharing a GT-Am class entry with Jürgen Häring and Marco Seefried. The trio took four podiums across the campaign and finished third in the championship standings.
His main programme was in the European Le Mans Series with United Autosports, racing in the LMP3 class alongside Bailey Voisin and Josh Caygill. The season began promisingly at Le Castellet, where Caygill took the car to third — a result upgraded to second after the leading car was disqualified. Two retirements and lower-points finishes followed, before a podium at the Algarve finale placed the three drivers eighth in the championship. At the end of the year Gehrsitz was selected as one of the designated drivers for the post-season WEC Rookie Test, driving in the LMGTE-Am category.
In 2023 Gehrsitz switched back to GT racing, teaming with Porsche works driver Sven Müller at Team Joos Sportwagentechnik in the ADAC GT Masters.
Gehrsitz subsequently joined the FIA World Endurance Championship with Garage 59, having earlier driven for Akkodis ASP Team. His path from domestic GT4 racing to a full WEC programme was achieved within a few seasons of his senior car-racing debut.
Gehrsitz is mentored by Ellen Lohr, the only woman to have won a race in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Lohr's guidance has been cited as a significant influence on his development as a driver.
