"Formula Classic Gen 4" covers approximately 1993–1997 F1 machinery, and the M2 sub-model within that generation represents a second-tier constructor: a car built to the same technical regulations as the front-runners but with marginally less aerodynamic development, engine performance, or overall resources. In 1990s F1 terms, this tier included teams capable of occasional wins or podiums but unable to sustain championship pressure across a season.
Reiza has not officially identified specific real-world chassis counterparts for the Gen 4 M2. The archetype draws on the mid-field competitive reality of a decade defined by wide performance gaps between the top teams and the chasing pack.
The mid-1990s mid-field was led by Ferrari's recovery arc. The Ferrari F310 (1996) placed Michael Schumacher's new team in genuine contention for the first time since 1990, despite reliability problems and ongoing development work. The F310 and its successors represented the transitional period before Ferrari's late-1990s championship run — competitive enough to win races, not yet consistently capable of beating Williams.
McLaren-Mercedes occupied similar territory from 1995–1997. The MP4/10, MP4/11, and MP4/12 were technically sophisticated machines — McLaren had won championships with Senna through 1991 — but the new Mercedes partnership required time to gel, leaving the team in mid-field contention during 1995–1996 before returning to dominance in 1998.
Jordan, Benetton's later years, and Arrows with their Yamaha and then TWR Hart engines also populated this performance band: teams with genuine technical ambition but constrained by budget or engine supply compared to the Williams-Renault axis.
The Formula Classic Gen 4 M2 (Legacy DLC) occupies the middle tier of the three-model Gen 4 class in AMS2. It offers slightly less aerodynamic grip and lower peak performance than the M1, more closely reflecting the on-track experience of a mid-field 1990s constructor. This performance differentiation makes the Gen 4 class function as a full grid simulation rather than a single-spec formula, rewarding setups that extract the most from the M2's slightly looser handling balance.
As part of the Legacy DLC content, the Gen 4 M2 pairs with the M1 and M3 variants to recreate the performance spread of a 1990s F1 grid. It is used in historic championship modes and is compatible with AMS2's period-correct circuit catalog.
