Forza Horizon 6 is the sixth main entry in Microsoft's open-world Horizon racing series, set in a stylised Japan and released on 19 May 2026.

Reveal: Xbox Tokyo Game Show Broadcast, September 2025. First gameplay: Xbox Developer Direct, 22 January 2026. Early Access: 15 May 2026 with the Premium Edition. Wide release: 19 May 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Microsoft Store and Steam, with day-one availability on Xbox and PC Game Pass. A PlayStation 5 version is scheduled for later in 2026 โ€” the first multi-platform Forza Horizon entry.

Developer: Playground Games leads, with Turn 10 Studios assisting on sim-grade tire and suspension modelling carried over from Forza Motorsport. Publisher: Xbox Game Studios.

Reception: Metacritic 91 (Xbox) and 89 (PC). 172,000 concurrent Steam players at Early Access โ€” a franchise record โ€” climbing to 300,000 by 24 May. Six million players across all platforms by 21 May.

FH6 is set in a stylised Japan โ€” explicitly not 1:1, but informed by Japan fieldwork by the development team and shaped by cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita's brief: "the coexistence of Japan โ€” a neighborhood shrine beside a small workshop beside a neon arcade." Art director Don Arceta described the choice: "Japan has been top of Horizon fans' wish lists for a long time."

The map covers approximately 220-246 kmยฒ (roughly twice FH5's 107 kmยฒ) across seven large regions and ten named areas, with 74 districts and 670+ roads. Named regions include Tokyo City (the anchor, five times the size of FH5's largest urban area, subdivided into Shibuya/Downtown, suburban, Docklands, and Tokyo Bay/Rainbow Bridge), Legend Island (gated behind gold wristband progression), Ito, Minamino, Ohtani, Hokubu, Shimanoyama, Sotoyama and Takashiro, Okubou, and the Japanese Alps. Urban landmarks include Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Ginkgo Avenue, Daikoku Parking Area, and Tokyo City Docks.

550+ cars at launch โ€” the largest starting roster in the series โ€” climbing to 618 across 87 manufacturers, 37 categories, and 7 PI classes. Cover cars: 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype (video-game debut) and 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.

Marketing-confirmed JDM cars include the 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex (AE86 / Forza Edition), 2003 Honda S2000 Rocket Bunny, 1993 Autozam AZ-1 (Mazdaspeed), 1991 Nissan Figaro Treasure Car, 1985 Nissan Safari Turbo, 1994 Subaru Vivio RX-R, 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432 (Wangan Midnight collaboration), 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi, 1995 Lancer Evo III GSR, and 1999 Lancer Evo VI GSR.

Confirmed aftermarket integrations: Liberty Walk body kits, Rocket Bunny / Pandem body kits, Origin Lab body kits (first Forza appearance), HKS widebody on the GR Supra A90, and Mazdaspeed period parts on the AZ-1.

FH6 ships with several systems unique to its Japan tailoring. Touge Battle mode is a new dedicated head-to-head format down twisting passes at night across five official routes โ€” Mt. Haruna, Hakone Nanamagari, Bandai Azuma, Norikura Skyline, and Arahiyama Takao Parkway. Drift scoring weights angle heavily, with tandem drift multiplayer. Discover Japan mode features stamp collection mimicking the real eki-stamp tourist tradition. Three permanent Car Meets are at the Horizon Festival Site, Okuibuki Parking Lot, and Daikoku. The Estate is a buildable personal land system; Horizon CoLab allows collaborative EventLab design. The Wristband progression system returns from FH1. Subculture framings explicitly named in marketing include bosozoku, VIP, itasha, kanjo, dajiban, drift missiles, and Wangan high-speed builds.

Two formal collaborations: Initial D: Forza Horizon Stage is a 15-chapter Horizon Stories mode with nine story cars, accompanied by the Takashiro Region update that adds Mt. Akina and Hakone Nanamagari content; the AE86 base car ships at 28,500 credits and PI 276. Wangan Midnight: Horizon Special is a 10-chapter collaboration with four story cars (1969 Fairlady Z 432, 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3, 1998 Toyota Supra RZ, 1999 Lancer Evo VI GSR) on the "Highway Tokyo" gameplay area. The Wangan Midnight chapters introduce characters "Jordan and Mei" who do not match Akio Asakura and Reina from the original manga โ€” a localisation or side-story decision flagged for verification. MF Ghost has no formal collaboration but the AE86 inclusion lets players recreate Kanata Katagiri's stock-red car.

9 radio stations and 225+ tracks โ€” the largest in the series. Returning: Horizon Pulse, Horizon Bass Arena, Horizon Block Party, Horizon XS, Horizon Wave, Hospital Records. New: Gacha City Radio (J-pop / city-pop / anison, with Creepy Nuts, Ado, and ZUTOMAYO confirmed), Sub Pop Records, and Horizon Opus. The Initial D collaboration adds the Super Eurobeat station hosted by Dave Rodgers. Title-screen remix by Lane 8 with Dave Rodgers and Kasablanca.
