Bird made his racing debut in the 2015 Ginetta Junior Championship, claiming his first victory at Knockhill in his maiden season. He moved to single-seaters in 2016, contesting the British F4 Championship and earning several top-ten finishes. From 2017 to 2019 he competed in Formula Renault, participating in both the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Northern European Cup Championships, narrowly missing a podium at Monza in 2018. He also competed in selected GT4 events during this period.
In 2018, Bird claimed a class win at the Dubai 24 Hour in the Renault Clio Cup category.
In 2019, Bird made a foray into rallying, taking five wins from seven events in the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship with MSVR, including six wins from seven across the winter events.
Bird entered GT3 competition in 2020, joining Team Parker Racing in the Silver Cup class of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup as part of Bentley's academy programme. He partnered Nicolai Kjaergaard and started the 24 Hours of Spa that year.
In 2021, he competed on two fronts. At the Dubai 24 Hours he took a podium with Team WRT in his first 24-hour race. In the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, partnering Ryuichiro Tomita, he claimed two class victories and finished third overall in Silver Cup. He also took a podium in the Endurance Cup.
Bird joined Team Landgraf for the 2022 ADAC GT Masters in a Mercedes-AMG GT3, finishing 21st overall in the series.
He returned to the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup in 2023, winning three class races. Though Bird himself missed two events following the death of his father Paul Bird — a former rally driver and founder of Paul Bird Motorsport — his performances contributed to teammate Jordan Love taking the Silver Cup title. The high point of 2023 came at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, where Bird won in the two-car SPX category driving a Mercedes-AMG GT2.
In 2024, Bird participated in the Asian Le Mans Series with Garage 59, taking a podium at Abu Dhabi. He was selected for the official Mercedes-AMG Motorsport programme and tackled European events in a factory-backed Mercedes-AMG GT3 through 2023 and 2024.
Following the death of his father Paul, Bird became co-owner of PBM Racing Team — the successor entity to Paul Bird Motorsport, which the elder Bird had built into Britain's most successful motorcycle racing operation in MotoGP and BSB. Frank Jr. has balanced his driving commitments with the team management responsibilities during the organisation's transition.
Bird is based in Nassington, Northamptonshire. He holds a BRDC Rising Star designation. His diverse background — including rallying, single-seaters, and multiple GT categories — gives him the cross-discipline versatility he describes as central to his racing identity.
