After a period in karting, Makowiecki contested the French Formula Three Championship, finishing fourth in Class B. His transition to GT racing led him to the Porsche Carrera Cup France, which would become a defining series in his development. He finished third in the championship in 2004 and 2009 and second in 2006 and 2007, before winning the title outright in 2010 with six race victories, eleven podiums, and three pole positions.
Makowiecki competed in the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship with Hexis AMR, finishing fourth in the overall standings. Moving to the FIA GT1 World Championship for 2010, he drove for Hexis AMR and finished third in the championship. He raced for Marc VDS Racing Team in 2011 before returning to Hexis, now operating as Hexis Racing, for 2012, where he finished second in the drivers' standings.

For 2013 Makowiecki joined Aston Martin Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, scoring two outright race victories — at the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas and the 6 Hours of Fuji. That same year he co-drove in Japan's Super GT series for Weider Dome Racing with Naoki Yamamoto, winning the 42nd International Pokka Sapporo 1000km at Suzuka Circuit.
Makowiecki joined Porsche AG Team Manthey for the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship in the GTE-Pro class, marking the beginning of a decade-long full factory relationship with Porsche Motorsport. He became one of the most decorated drivers in Porsche's endurance programme.
His major victories in Porsche machinery span multiple events and years. He won the 12 Hours of Sebring in both 2018 and 2019. He won the Petit Le Mans in 2018 and again in 2020. He won the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring in 2018. At Le Mans, his career included fourteen starts across the years from 2011 to 2026. His most significant result at the Circuit de la Sarthe came in 2022, when he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE-Pro class driving a Porsche 911 RSR-19 alongside Kevin Estre and Gianmaria Bruni.
For the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship season, Makowiecki moved into the Hypercar class with Porsche Penske Motorsport, driving the Porsche 963 alongside Dane Cameron and Michael Christensen as Porsche made its entry into the top category.
Following his decade with Porsche, Makowiecki joined the Alpine Endurance Team as a factory driver in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship, racing the Alpine A424 from the 2025 season.
Makowiecki's career represents the full arc of the professional GT driver pathway — from national cup racing to the FIA Platinum rating that places a driver among the fastest tier of factory talent. His victories at Sebring, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Petit Le Mans, and Le Mans itself, achieved across different marques and categories, mark him as one of the most versatile and successful French endurance drivers of his generation.
