GasGas is a Spanish motorcycle manufacturer specialising in off-road competition, founded in 1985 in Salt, Girona, Catalonia, by Narcìs Casas and Josep Pibernat following the closure of the Bultaco factory where both had previously worked. Built around Catalonia's strong motorcycle trials culture, GasGas grew from a trials specialist into a multi-discipline off-road brand, accumulating world championship titles in trials, enduro, motocross, and rally before its acquisition by KTM — itself part of Bajaj Auto — brought it into the highest levels of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

GasGas was established specifically to capitalise on the demand for trials machinery in a region with a deep-rooted trials tradition. Its first notable model was the Halley, which helped establish the brand in the competitive trial market. Through the 1990s and early 2000s the company extended its range into enduro and motocross, developing an identity as a comprehensive off-road manufacturer.

The brand's most concentrated early success came in motorcycle trials. In 1993 GasGas recruited Jordi Tarrés, who had previously won multiple world trials championships with Beta. Riding for GasGas, Tarrés won the FIM Trial World Championship in 1993, 1994, and 1995, delivering three consecutive world titles in the brand's first decade.

Adam Raga subsequently became the defining GasGas trials competitor of the 2000s. Raga won the Trial Indoor World Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, and the Trial Outdoor World Championship in both 2005 and 2006, extending GasGas's trials record to nine world championship titles across the two disciplines by the end of that period.

GasGas also built a substantial record in the World Enduro Championship. Paul Edmondson won the 125cc world enduro title in 1994 and the 250cc class in 1996. Petteri Silván claimed the 250cc class and the overall championship in 1999. Petri Pohjamo won the 125cc class in 2003.

GasGas encountered financial difficulties in the 2010s, entering insolvency in 2015. In 2019 KTM — part of the PIERER Mobility group, which is in turn majority-owned by India's Bajaj Auto — acquired a controlling stake in the company. The acquisition provided financial stability and access to KTM's shared-platform technology and manufacturing capability. In 2020 Rieju separately acquired the GasGas off-road platform and continued production of enduro models under the Rieju MR name.

Following the KTM acquisition, GasGas entered the FIM Motocross World Championship for 2020 at the Matterley Basin British Grand Prix, fielding riders in both the MXGP and MX2 classes for the first time. Standing Construct GasGas Factory Racing contested the MXGP class, with Glenn Coldenhoff — who had finished third in the previous year's MXGP series — leading the factory effort.

The brand's motocross programme continued to grow, and in both 2023 and 2024 GasGas won the premier class of the Motocross World Championship with Spanish rider Jorge Prado.

GasGas competed in the Dakar Rally with Laia Sanz in 2012 and 2021 and added Daniel Sanders and Sam Sunderland to its Dakar programme from 2022. Sunderland won the 2022 Dakar Rally on a GasGas, delivering the brand's first Dakar overall victory.

After the KTM acquisition GasGas entered Grand Prix motorcycle racing using KTM-based machinery. In Moto3, from 2021 GasGas fielded the RC250GP — derived from the KTM RC250GP — as a distinct constructor entry. Izan Guevara won the 2022 Moto3 World Championship aboard a GasGas RC250GP, also winning the constructors' title that year. David Alonso finished third in Moto3 in 2023 before transitioning to a sister brand.

In Moto2, GasGas partnered the Aspar Team from 2022, with Jake Dixon contributing six podiums in 2022 and finishing fourth in the 2023 championship with two wins.

In MotoGP, GasGas sponsored the Tech3 satellite team during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

GasGas motorcycles appear in off-road and rally simulation contexts, reflecting the brand's representation in major FIM championships that hold crossover interest for sim-racing audiences.
