Ginetta G56 GT4

section:car
The Ginetta G56 GT4 is a British GT4-class racing car produced by Ginetta Cars, launched in 2021 as the successor to the long-running and highly successful Ginetta G55 GT4. Built around a GM LS3-derived 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 500 bhp, the G56 GT4 represented a significant step up in both power and specification from its predecessor.

Ginetta Cars, a Leeds-based manufacturer with a long history in British club motorsport, introduced the G56 as the next generation of its sportscar range, replacing the G55 across multiple categories. The GT4 variant was developed to comply with the international GT4 regulations that govern customer racing at national and continental level. The car competes primarily in the British GT Championship within the GT4 category, a series that has long been one of the most competitive customer racing platforms in the United Kingdom.

The GT4 is powered by a Ginetta-built engine based on the General Motors LS3 V8 architecture, displacing 6.2 litres and producing 500 bhp (373 kW). This engine choice gives the G56 GT4 a distinctive character among GT4-class competitors, many of which use smaller turbocharged units. The car succeeds the G55 GT4 and carries forward Ginetta's philosophy of producing accessible, reliable, and competitive machinery for gentleman drivers and professional customer teams alike.

On 1 November 2023, Ginetta unveiled the G56 GT4 EVO, the car's first significant evolution, designed for the 2024 racing season onwards. The Evo features updated bodywork, most notably a revised front bonnet design and a changed rear wing profile. The car made its global racing debut ahead of the official launch, competing in a four-hour GT4 race in the Ultimate Cup Series in October 2023, demonstrating the updated package before its full-season introduction.

Alongside the GT4, Ginetta developed the G56 into a broader range of motorsport and road variants. The G56 GTA replaced the G55 GTA in Ginetta's own GT Academy championship, powered by a 270 bhp Ford Duratec 37 3.7-litre V6 engine and upgradable to G56 GT Pro specification. The G56 GTX, unveiled alongside the GT4 EVO, is an unrestricted version of the Evo featuring enhanced aerodynamics and an unrestricted engine tune; it made its racing debut at the 2023 12 Hours of Kuwait in the 24H Series, taking class victory. The GTX also appeared as an invitational entry in the 2024 GT2 European Series at Spa-Francorchamps. A full GT2-specification version of the G56 was announced for 2025 development, based on the GTX platform. For one-make racing, the G56 GTP8 was created for the 2025 Ginetta GT Championship season, replacing the V6-powered G56 GT Pro and later added to the GT America Series for 2026. The G56 GTR is the road-going derivative, featuring a 6.2-litre Ginetta V8 producing 450 bhp with an H-pattern gearbox.

The G56 GT4 continues Ginetta's decades-long tradition of providing competitive, British-built GT4 machinery to the customer racing market. The British GT Championship remains its primary competitive platform, where the car races against international marques including Aston Martin, McLaren, and Toyota. The rapid development of the G56 family into GT4 Evo, GTX, and GT2 variants within just a few years of launch demonstrates Ginetta's commitment to staying competitive across the evolving landscape of international GT regulations.
