On 23 May 2018 the Automobile Club de l'Ouest announced the framework for Generation 2 LMP3 regulations, granting homologation to four manufacturers: Onroak Automotive for Ligier, Duqueine Automotive for Norma, ADESS AG, and Ginetta. Full implementation was confirmed on 7 February 2019, with the cars intended to race from 2020 to 2024. Technical direction of the G61-LT-P3 was led by Peter Smith, with exterior design by Alun Denbury. Styling cues were drawn from the Ginetta Akula supercar concept, and the aerodynamic bodywork was developed by the team that had previously worked on the Ginetta G60-LT-P1 LMP1 car. By 16 December 2019 the car had already accumulated more than 2,000 kilometres of testing at UK circuits, with Ginetta factory drivers and experienced Generation 1 LMP3 competitors sharing the mileage.
The G61-LT-P3 uses a carbon fibre monocoque chassis measuring 4,605 mm in length. Suspension at both ends employs Ohlins double wishbones with push-rod actuated springs and dampers and an anti-roll bar. Minimum weight is 950 kilograms. Brakes are Alcon ventilated discs with six-pot calipers. Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport GT.
The engine is a Nissan VK56DE 5,552 cc naturally aspirated V8, producing 455 brake horsepower (339 kW) and 420 newton-metres of torque. Drive passes to the rear wheels through an XTrac 1152 six-speed sequential gearbox. The car is mid-engined with rear-wheel drive.
The G61-LT-P3 debuted in competition at the 2021 4 Hours of Dubai in the Asian Le Mans Series. It went on to be entered in the European Le Mans Series, Road to Le Mans, and numerous national and regional championships. Notable entrants have included ARC Bratislava, DKR Engineering, CMR, Gebhardt Motorsport, Konrad Motorsport, and MG Sound Speed Division. The car's two championship titles came in the Ultimate Cup Series Proto LMP3 Ultimate category, in 2023 and 2024. In 52 recorded championship starts across its competition life, the original G61-LT-P3 specification did not win an outright race.
For 2025 Ginetta released the G61-LT-P3 Evo to satisfy Generation 3 LMP3 regulations. The principal mechanical change is the engine: the naturally aspirated Nissan V8 is replaced by a Toyota V35A-FTS 3,500 cc twin-turbocharged V6. Technical direction for the Evo was led by Clive Seddon. Laurents HΓΆrr and Mike Simpson β Ginetta's head of motorsport and a former LMP1 driver β conducted the early development testing programme. Ginetta announced an entry in the 2025 European Le Mans Series in partnership with DKR Engineering, a deal Simpson described as a milestone moment for the Evo programme.
At the 2025 Road to Le Mans, Thomas Laurent and Antti Rammo finished ninth overall and won the LMP3 Pro-Am class, recording the first victory for the Evo specification. Later in the 2025 season at the 4 Hours of Portimao, Wyatt Brichacek, Mikkel Gaarde Pedersen, and Rammo gave Ginetta its first ELMS podium since 2015.
