Formula One is the premier class of open-wheeled motor racing defined by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, the world governing body for motorsport. The World Championship season consists of Grands Prix held on purpose-built circuits and, in some cases, closed city streets, producing annual titles for drivers and constructors alike.

The World Championship for Drivers was first contested in 1950, following the agreement on Formula One standards in 1946. The Constructors' Championship was added for the 1958 season and has been awarded continuously since then. Each Grand Prix winner receives a trophy, and the accumulated results across the season determine both annual championships.

The list of winners formally includes victors of the eleven Indianapolis 500 races held between 1950 and 1960, which were part of the World Championship in that era despite not being run to Formula One regulations and not being designated Grands Prix.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most race victories in Formula One history with 106 wins. Michael Schumacher, the previous record holder, stands second with 91 wins. Max Verstappen is third with 71 victories.

Hamilton also holds the distinction of the longest span between a first and a last win: his maiden victory came at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, and his most recent win was at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix — a period of 19 years and 4 days. Riccardo Patrese holds the record for the longest gap between two wins, more than six and a half years separating his 1983 South African Grand Prix victory from his 1990 San Marino Grand Prix triumph. Mario Andretti waited the longest between his first win and his second: his maiden victory at the 1971 South African Grand Prix was followed by a gap of five years, seven months and 18 days before his second win at the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen holds the record for the most consecutive victories, winning ten Grands Prix in a row from the 2023 Miami Grand Prix through to the 2023 Italian Grand Prix. Verstappen is also the youngest Grand Prix winner in history, taking victory at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix at the age of 18 years and 228 days. At the other extreme, Luigi Fagioli is the oldest Grand Prix winner: he was 53 years and 22 days old when he won the 1951 French Grand Prix.

As of the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, 116 different drivers have won a Formula One Grand Prix from the 782 who have started a race. The first winner in championship history was Giuseppe Farina at the 1950 British Grand Prix. The most recent driver to record a maiden Grand Prix win is Kimi Antonelli, who took his first victory at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix.

Three specific Grands Prix — the 1951 French, 1956 Argentine, and 1957 British — were won by two drivers sharing a single car. In all three cases, both drivers were credited with the victory. From the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix onwards, gold medals have been awarded to all race winners in addition to the event-specific trophies.
