Héctor Garzó Vicent was born on 9 June 1998 in Spain. He entered the international competitive scene through the FIM CEV platform, beginning with a campaign in the 2016 Moto3 Junior World Championship. During this debut season, he failed to score any points.
Garzó’s breakthrough occurred following a move to the Moto2 European Championship in 2017. In his first year in the category, he secured one second-place finish and three third-place finishes. He concluded the season with 126 points, placing fourth in the overall standings.
During this period, he also made his debut in the Moto2 World Championship at the 2017 German motorcycle Grand Prix. Competing for Tech3 Racing as a replacement for the injured Xavi Vierge, Garzó retired from the race.
Garzó established himself as a title contender in the Moto2 European Championship over the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In 2018, he took two third-place finishes at Aragón before claiming his first victory in the category at Albacete. A second-place finish at the Valencia season finale brought his points total to 124, earning him third in the championship. He also made three substitute appearances for Tech3 Racing in the Moto2 World Championship that year, replacing the injured Remy Gardner at Jerez, Le Mans, and Mugello, though he did not score points.
The 2019 season marked Garzó’s most successful year in the European series. He recorded two victories, winning at both Aragón and Albacete. Supplementing these wins with six second-place finishes, he ended the year as the championship runner-up with 183 points, finishing 38 points behind title winner Edgar Pons.
In 2020, Garzó moved to the Moto2 World Championship full-time, partnering Lorenzo Baldassarri at Flexbox Pons Racing. He achieved five top-10 finishes during his rookie season. The highlight of the year was his maiden podium, a second-place finish at Valencia. He finished the season 16th in the standings with 63 points, ranking as the second-highest rookie of the year.
Garzó’s 2019 MotoE World Cup campaign was defined by a technical disqualification that ended his title aspirations. After scoring two second-place finishes at Misano, he entered the Valencia double-header in contention for the championship. Although he finished second and third in the two Valencia races, he was disqualified from the first race for having tyre pressures that were too low. This penalty relegated him to fourth in the final standings with 69 points.
In 2021, Garzó’s career was interrupted by a significant crash at Catalunya. He suffered burns in the accident, which forced him to miss two races. He was replaced at Flexbox Pons Racing by Alonso López during his recovery.
Following his injury in 2021, Garzó struggled to regain his form, recording only one top-10 finish and four point-scoring results throughout the season. He finished 23rd in the Moto2 World Championship standings with 16 points. Consequently, Pons Racing did not extend his contract for the 2022 season. Garzó subsequently transitioned back to the MotoE World Cup, signing with the Tech3 team for the 2022 season.
Garzó’s statistical peak is defined by his consistency in the Moto2 European Championship, where he finished in the top four of the standings for three consecutive years (2017–2019). In the Moto2 World Championship, his 2020 runner-up finish in the rookie standings remains his primary statistical achievement at the Grand Prix level. In MotoE, despite his 2019 disqualification, he maintained a high podium rate, securing four podium finishes across six races in his debut season.
