Acura ARX-06

The Acura ARX-06 is a sports prototype racing car designed by Honda Racing Corporation USA — formerly known as Honda Performance Development — and built by Oreca, competing in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship since 2023. Built to Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) regulations, it uses a bespoke 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine designated the AR24e combined with a standardised hybrid drivetrain. The ARX-06 became the first car to win all three major IMSA endurance races during the GTP era, claiming victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2023, the Petit Le Mans in 2023, and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2024.

In January 2021 Acura formally announced its entry into IMSA's new GTP class for 2023. On December 6 of that year, Acura confirmed it would work with Oreca as its chassis supplier, making Acura the first manufacturer in the LMDh ruleset to select Oreca as its partner. Meyer Shank Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing were simultaneously announced as the two teams that would campaign the ARX-06 in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.

The car completed its first shakedown at Circuit Paul Ricard in July 2022, followed by a full test at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours on 16 and 17 July 2022. The ARX-06 was publicly revealed on August 17, 2022. Its hybrid powertrain combines the AR24e V6 internal combustion engine with standardised hybrid components supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering, Bosch and Xtrac, for a maximum combined output of 671 hp (500 kW).

The ARX-06 debuted alongside the BMW M Hybrid V8, Cadillac V-LMDh and Porsche 963 at the 2023 Daytona International Speedway season opener. Both cars qualified in the top three and finished first and second. Meyer Shank Racing's entry, driven by Colin Braun, Tom Blomqvist, Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud, took the victory. After the race, Meyer Shank Racing received a 200-point penalty following a post-race investigation into tire pressure data manipulation; the team was allowed to retain the race win. Wayne Taylor Racing, running under a partnership with Andretti Global, retained Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor for the full season in the number 10 car.

Over the full season, the two ARX-06 entries scored six podiums including two wins — at the Chevrolet Grand Prix and at Petit Le Mans — and a pole position. The Drivers' and Teams' Championships were ultimately won by Action Express Racing and Cadillac, with Acura finishing third in the Manufacturers' Standings. At the end of 2023, Meyer Shank Racing departed the series to concentrate on an expanded IndyCar programme.

With Meyer Shank Racing's exit, Wayne Taylor Racing assumed management of both ARX-06 entries. Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor continued in the number 10, while Jordan Taylor and Louis Deletraz joined to race the new number 40. Wayne Taylor Racing earned the team's first victory with the ARX-06 at the 2024 12 Hours of Sebring, with Deletraz completing a late pass on Porsche's Felipe Nasr before holding off Cadillac's Sebastien Bourdais, finishing alongside Jordan Taylor and Colton Herta. A second win followed at the 2024 Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic. The team scored four podiums and two race wins across the season; Acura again finished third in the Manufacturers' Standings.

For 2025, Wayne Taylor Racing announced a move to Cadillac, and Meyer Shank Racing returned to the programme. The returning line-up includes Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun in the number 60 car and Nick Yelloly with Renger van der Zande in the new number 93 entry. IndyCar champions Alex Palou and Scott Dixon were confirmed for the Michelin Endurance Cup rounds.

The ARX-06 marked Acura's most ambitious prototype programme, establishing the LMDh formula's credibility at its debut season by winning the Daytona 24 Hours on first attempt. Its combination of Oreca's established LMP2-derived chassis with Acura's hybrid powertrain delivered immediate competitiveness against three rival manufacturer entries, and its three major IMSA endurance race victories in its first two seasons placed it among the most successful debuts in the GTP era.
