James John Calado (born 13 June 1989) is a British professional racing driver who competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Ferrari - AF Corse in the Hypercar class and selected GT races for AF Corse. He won the LMGTE Pro class of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship, the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the overall victory in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Born and raised in Cropthorne, Worcestershire, Calado began his motorsport career in karting in 1999 at Cadets level. He was a member of the 2000 championship-winning England Inter-Nations Cadet Team and won the British Cadet Championship in 2001.

Calado transitioned to single-seater racing in 2008, competing in the British Formula Renault Championship with Fortec Motorsport. He finished seventh overall and second in the Graduate Cup for first-year drivers, taking one victory at Snetterton. He also won both the British and Portuguese Formula Renault Winter Series, holding off Henry Surtees by three points in the British championship. In 2009, continuing with Fortec, Calado secured eight victories but ultimately finished as runner-up in the British Formula Renault Championship behind Dean Smith, 34 points behind the Wolverhampton driver.

In 2010, Calado moved to the British Formula 3 Championship with Carlin, finishing second overall with five victories behind Jean-Éric Vergne. He progressed to the GP3 Series in 2011, driving for Lotus ART, achieving second place in the drivers’ standings with a single win at Valencia and five further podium finishes. ART also won the teams’ championship.

Calado debuted in the GP2 Series in 2011, securing a sprint race victory at Yas Marina. He joined Lotus full-time for the 2012 season, winning sprint races in Malaysia and Hockenheim, and finishing fifth overall, earning the title of the series’ best rookie driver. He continued with ART in 2013, finishing third in the standings with two sprint race wins.

In July 2013, Calado participated in a Young Driver’s test for Force India at Silverstone, setting the fourth fastest time. He was subsequently selected as their third driver for the Italian Grand Prix, participating in the first practice session.

Calado tested with Panasonic Jaguar Racing in Formula E in June 2019 and subsequently joined the team for the 2019–20 season, partnering Mitch Evans. He scored his first points in the series at the 2019 Diriyah ePrix, finishing seventh. He later received a disqualification at the 2020 Mexico City ePrix due to a technical issue.

Calado joined AF Corse in 2014, making his debut at the 6 Hours of Silverstone. He achieved his first sports car podium at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. He secured the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship in the LMGTE Pro class, and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019 alongside Alessandro Pier Guidi and Daniel Serra. He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for a second time in 2021, partnering Pier Guidi and Ledogar.

In 2023, Calado joined the Ferrari Hypercar project run by AF Corse, competing in the WEC with a Ferrari 499P. The No. 51 crew secured victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking Ferrari’s first win in 50 years. According to Motorsport Stats, Calado, alongside Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, won the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship with Ferrari .
