John Martin is an Australian professional racing driver born July 8, 1984 in Gosford, New South Wales, who progressed through European open-wheel formulae before establishing himself as a competitive endurance racer. He is best known for his long association with the British squad Alan Docking Racing, his 2011 Superleague Formula championship, and a third-place overall finish at the 2014 Daytona 24 Hours.

Martin began karting in Australia in the early 2000s, winning the 2002 RESA Queensland state championship and finishing second at the 2004 Australian RESA nationals. He progressed to circuit racing in Australia, winning the 2005 Victorian Formula Ford Championship and following it immediately with the 2006 Australian Formula Ford Championship, results that secured him a move to Europe.

Martin raced in British Formula Three in 2007 and 2008 with Alan Docking Racing, an association that would continue across multiple series throughout his career. He also contested the 2007 Masters of Formula Three at Zandvoort. Alongside his F3 campaign he joined A1 Team Australia for the A1 Grand Prix series, competing through the 2007–08 season and the 2008–09 season. A1 Grand Prix was a nation-against-nation championship that gave Martin sustained exposure to international single-seater competition.

In 2009 Martin moved to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with Comtec Racing, a step up from Formula Three toward GP2 and Formula One level. That same year he began competing in Superleague Formula — a series in which cars carried the liveries of major association football clubs — driving the Rangers FC-liveried entry and claiming one victory from thirteen races. The 2010 campaign was more expansive: he began the year under the Atlético Madrid banner before finishing it with Beijing Guoan, accumulating twenty-nine starts, six wins, and twenty top-ten finishes. In 2011 Martin drove the Australia-liveried car for Alan Docking Racing and won the Superleague Formula championship outright, the peak of his single-seater career.

Martin's transition into sports car racing brought his most prominent international results. In 2012 he raced with ADR-Delta in the FIA World Endurance Championship, driving an Oreca 03-Nissan in the LMP2 class. In 2013 he raced with G-Drive Racing in the WEC, finishing third in the LMP2 class championship.

Martin posted a third-place finish overall at the 2014 Daytona 24 Hours, one of the most recognised results of his career. He also claimed a class victory at the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2017, driving a Walkinshaw GT3 Porsche 911 GT3 R — a result that combined his international experience with a high-profile domestic Australian platform.

Martin subsequently competed in Australian domestic series, racing in TCR Australia in 2019, 2021, and 2024. His career arc — from Formula Ford champion in Australia through European open-wheel racing and endurance competition at Le Mans, Daytona, and Bathurst, and back to Australian touring car competition — represents one of the more varied international résumés of his generation of Australian drivers.
