Davenport grew up racing in the mountains of western North Carolina, beginning his motorsport career in mini stocks on dirt at Tri County Raceway in Brasstown, North Carolina. He subsequently competed in Legend Cars and asphalt Pro Late Models before making his Dirt Late Model debut in 2004. By 2005 he was running Super Late Models at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Georgia, gradually expanding his schedule into regional and then national series competition.
Davenport's progression through the national dirt late model ranks followed a steady upward trajectory. He won Rookie of the Year honors in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2012, a recognition that foreshadowed his championship campaigns. He claimed the series title in 2015, then again in 2018 and 2019, establishing himself as the benchmark for consistency in the sport's premier touring series. Across his Lucas Oil career he accumulated 75 wins, 191 top-five finishes, and more than 282 top-ten results.
The World 100 at Eldora Speedway, widely considered the most prestigious dirt late model race in the United States, became a signature event for Davenport. He won the race five times — in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022 — a record that underscores his ability to perform on the sport's biggest stages.
Davenport also maintained a part-time presence in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. His best points result in that series was a sixteenth-place finish in 2011, despite entering only eleven of the 34 scheduled races. That partial campaign nonetheless produced fifteen wins, 48 top fives, and 70 top tens, illustrating the level of performance he brought to every start.
Davenport made multiple attempts to compete in NASCAR's national series. In 2013 he attempted to qualify for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway driving the No. 1 for MAKE Motorsports, but failed to make the field.
His first NASCAR Cup Series start came at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race in April 2023, when Kaulig Racing fielded him in the No. 13 car. Davenport finished 36th after becoming involved in a multi-car crash midway through the event. That same year, Spire Motorsports announced he would also make his official NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut in the Weather Guard Truck Race on Dirt, giving him starts in both NASCAR national touring series within a single season.
Davenport drives the No. 49 Longhorn Chassis out of Double L Motorsports in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. His nickname Superman reflects the high-intensity, hard-charging driving style that has produced wins at tracks across the dirt late model circuit. His three series championships and five World 100 victories place him among the elite in a discipline that has produced some of the most competitive racing in American short-track history.
