Al Qubaisi studied finance and operations management at Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, and subsequently completed a Master of Science in Project Management at George Washington University. He was awarded the CFA designation in 2003.
Before joining Mubadala, he served as Chief Investment Officer at International Capital and as Head of Corporate Finance and Business Development at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi. At Mubadala he moved through successive roles including Chief Human Capital Officer and CEO of Aerospace, Renewables and ICT, overseeing portfolios spanning aerospace, utilities, renewables, information and communications technology, and defence services. From 2021 to 2024 he was CEO of Mubadala Real Estate and Infrastructure Investments.
Al Qubaisi holds board positions at a number of major entities, including as Chairman of Tabreed (National Central Cooling Company), and Director and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Motor Sports Management and Finance House. He has also served as a board member of Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), ENEC, du, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES.
Al Qubaisi began his international competitive career in the Porsche Supercup between 2009 and 2012 with Team Abu Dhabi by Tolimit, later Project 1 Motorsport. He also contested the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, finishing ninth in 2010 and fifth in 2011 — with one win, one pole position and six podiums — racing with Tolimit Arabia.
Al Qubaisi's most prominent racing achievements came in Dubai endurance racing. He won the Dubai 24 Hour race outright in 2012 and 2013, competing for the Black Falcon team in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. The 2012 victory was shared with teammates Sean Edwards, Jeroen Bleekemolen and Thomas Jager. The 2013 edition was won alongside Bernd Schneider. Also in 2013 he won the Yas Marina 12-Hour Race.
Al Qubaisi entered the FIA World Endurance Championship LMGTE Am class in 2014 with Proton Competition, racing a Porsche 911 RSR alongside Klaus Bachler and Christian Ried. The crew finished fourth in the LMGTE Am championship that season. In a later interview, Al Qubaisi described finishing second in class at Le Mans in 2014 as a career highlight.
He continued in the LMGTE Am class in 2015 with Abu Dhabi Proton Racing, finishing seventh in the class standings, and in 2016 achieved his best championship result: second in the LMGTE Am championship with two class wins and three pole positions, co-driving with Patrick Long and David Heinemeier Hansson.
Al Qubaisi started the 24 Hours of Le Mans six times between 2013 and 2018. In 2013 he drove for JMW in a Ferrari 458 in LMGTE Pro specification. His 2014 Le Mans was his best classified result, finishing 21st overall and second in the LMGTE Am class in a Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR. He also started in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, with retirements in 2015, 2017 and 2018, and a 28th-place overall finish in 2016.
Al Qubaisi also took part in the FIA Formula 3 Asian Championship — finishing 18th in the 2019-20 season and 25th in the 2021 edition — as well as the 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship, where he finished 35th. These single-seater programmes ran alongside his GT endurance commitments.
Al Qubaisi is married with three children. His daughters Amna Al Qubaisi and Hamda Al Qubaisi are both active racing drivers in their own right.
