Hołowczyc established himself at the top of Polish rallying during the 1990s, winning the Polish Rally Championship in 1995 and 1996 with Subaru Impreza machinery before adding a third domestic title in 1999. He claimed the outright win at Rally Poland nine times across his career, making him the most successful driver in the history of that event.
His 1997 European Rally Championship title brought international recognition. Driving a Subaru Impreza 555 with navigator Maciej Wislawski, he won three rounds in the season to secure the title. The ERC title was the highest point of his stage rally career and established him as a driver of continental standing rather than purely a national specialist.
Hołowczyc accumulated 21 WRC starts across a period stretching from 1996 to 2015. His WRC debut came in February 1996 at the Swedish Rally in a Toyota Celica. His best WRC result came at the 2009 Rally Poland, which had returned to the WRC calendar for the first time, where he finished sixth overall in a Ford Focus RS WRC run by the Stobart M-Sport team with co-driver Lukasz Kurzeja, scoring World Championship points. He also competed at the 2016 European Rallycross Championship, demonstrating his range across motorsport disciplines.
Hołowczyc's Dakar career covered ten starts and represented his most sustained engagement at elite international level. His best result came in 2015, when he finished third overall alongside navigator Xavier Panseri in a MINI All4 Racing, behind Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giniel de Villiers. Other finishes include sixth in 2009 and 2014, fifth in 2011, and tenth in 2012; he retired from the 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2013 editions due to mechanical failure or crash damage. The third-place in 2015 placed him among the handful of European drivers to reach the Dakar podium.
Beyond the Dakar, Hołowczyc accumulated multiple victories in other cross-country events. He won the FIA Cross-Country World Cup in 2013, the FIA European Baja Cup in 2021 and again in 2023. He has won Baja Poland nine times across his career, making him the dominant figure in Poland's principal off-road event. In 2023 he won the Hungarian Baja in a BMW X3 under his Holowczyc Management company banner. For 2025 he entered Baja Poland in a MINI John Cooper Works Rally 3.0i.
Hołowczyc served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2007 to 2009, representing the Civic Platform party. His sporting achievements were recognised by the Polish state with the Silver Cross of Merit in 2000 and the Golden Cross of Merit in 2005. He operates Holowczyc Management as his competitive and commercial vehicle.
