Following the success of the European Super Trofeo series, Lamborghini Squadra Corse expanded the program into Asia in 2012, capitalizing on the marque's growing presence and customer base in the region. The Asian series was designed to offer the same controlled, one-make competition format as the European championship, giving Asian Lamborghini customers and racing enthusiasts access to a manufacturer-supported racing platform calibrated to match the global Super Trofeo standards.
Like the other regional series, the Asian championship follows a format of six rounds, each comprising two 50-minute races in a double-header structure. The series is held at prominent Asian motorsport circuits, providing competitors with experience at venues central to the region's GT and prototype racing calendars.
All competitors in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia race the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo, the same car used in all Super Trofeo series worldwide. The Huracán Super Trofeo Evo is based on the Huracán LP 620-2 and replaced the earlier Gallardo-based car that was used when the Asian series launched in 2012. Lamborghini Squadra Corse specifies and controls the technical configuration of the car across all three continental series to ensure identical machinery and fair competition.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia uses the same four-class structure applied across all Super Trofeo championships. The Pro class is for experienced professional drivers. The Pro-Am class pairs a professional driver with a gentleman or amateur co-driver in a shared car. The Am class features amateur drivers competing without a professional partner. The LB Cup category provides an entry-level competition environment for drivers new to the Super Trofeo program or to circuit racing more generally. All classes share the track simultaneously during races, with separate points standings maintained for each category across the season.
Since 2013, the Asian series' champions and qualifying competitors have participated in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final. This annual event brings together the top drivers from all three continental championships — Europe, Asia, and North America — to contest a common race in which Lamborghini crowns its overall world champions. The World Final gives competitors in the Asian series a route to global recognition within the Super Trofeo program, linking the regional championship to the broader international motorsport stage.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia played a pivotal role in expanding the Super Trofeo's reach beyond Europe, demonstrating that the one-make customer racing format could attract a competitive grid and sustained participation across different global markets. The success of the Asian series encouraged the further expansion of the program into North America the following year, completing what became a three-continent structure unified by a common car, format, and World Final. The series has provided a competitive home for GT racing enthusiasts across the Asia-Pacific region and served as a proving ground for drivers who have moved on to higher-level motorsport.
