Las Vegas Street Circuit

section:track
The Las Vegas Strip Circuit is a 3.853 mi (6.201 km) street circuit in Paradise, Nevada, winding counterclockwise through the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Designed by Carsten Tilke, son of the prolific Formula One circuit architect Hermann Tilke, it opened on 16 November 2023 for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix and is one of the fastest street circuits on the Formula One calendar.

The circuit runs counterclockwise over 17 corners and features a 1.2 mi (1.9 km) flat-out section that passes some of Las Vegas's most famous landmarks. Construction broke ground in March 2022, and the layout was revised from its original 14-corner design with the addition of a chicane to bring the total to 17 corners.

The lap begins in a former parking lot that Formula One purchased for $240 million, which was developed into a permanent pit and paddock facility. The first corner is a hairpin, after which the track bends through fast rights onto Koval Lane before encircling the MSG Sphere arena in a long sweeping left. The circuit transitions onto Sands Avenue for two high-speed bends, then turns left onto Las Vegas Boulevard to begin the signature section: a 1.2 mi straight with a gentle sweeping curve past the Venetian, Flamingo, Paris Las Vegas, Bellagio, the Cosmopolitan, and Caesars Palace. A tight trio of slow corners at Planet Hollywood onto Harmon Avenue is followed by a half-mile straight before a fast left bend returns cars to the permanent facility.

The configuration rewards top-speed machinery above almost all other traits. The maximum speed recorded in a 2025-specification Formula One car was 222.6 mph (358.3 km/h), established by Yuki Tsunoda in a Red Bull at the end of the Strip. The county government granted Formula One permission to use the public roads for ten years.

The circuit hosts the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix each November, alongside the F1 Academy support series. A Ferrari Challenge North America round was held there in 2024.

The record pole position average lap speed is 150.3 mph (241.9 km/h), set by George Russell in a Mercedes for the 2024 race. The fastest race lap average of 148.6 mph (239.1 km/h) was set by Max Verstappen in a Red Bull during the 2025 race.

Several months after the inaugural 2023 race, the BBC reported in March 2024 that FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem had allegedly attempted to pressure race officials into not certifying the circuit in time for the event. This report emerged the day after it was announced that Sulayem was under FIA investigation for allegedly persuading stewards to overturn a penalty given to Fernando Alonso at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. On 20 March 2024, the FIA announced it had cleared Ben Sulayem of any wrongdoing related to the circuit certification allegations.

The Las Vegas Strip Circuit represents the return of Formula One to Las Vegas after a long absence and reflects the sport's commercial expansion into the United States market. The night-race format, illuminated landmarks, and record straight-line speeds make it one of the most distinctive venues on the calendar. The permanent pit and paddock infrastructure, constructed on land purchased outright by Formula One, signals a long-term commitment to the venue.
