Luca Scassa (born 23 August 1983) is an Italian motorcycle racer who serves as a Ducati Corse test rider. Over the course of his career he competed across multiple major championships including MotoGP, the Superbike World Championship, the Supersport World Championship, the AMA Superbike Championship, and the British Superbike Championship, most notably claiming the Italian Superbike title in 2008 aboard an MV Agusta.

Scassa grew up in Italy and began building his career in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup from 2004 to 2007. In those early seasons he showed consistent pace, finishing seventh overall in the European Superstock Championship in 2004 and 2005, and reaching third in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in 2006 on an MV Agusta. By 2007 he was an established contender on the national and European scene, setting the stage for a breakthrough.

The defining moment of Scassa's early career came in 2008 when he claimed the Italian Superbike Championship (Campionato Italiano Velocita) riding an MV Agusta F4 312 R for team Unionbike Gimotorsports. The title confirmed his ability as a front-running domestic champion and opened the door to sustained international competition.

Scassa made his World Superbike debut as a replacement rider for DF Racing Team at Portimão in 2008, scoring no points but gaining valuable experience at the top level.

In 2009 he contested a full season with Team Pedercini on a Kawasaki ZX-10R, finishing 29th in the standings with 11 points. His best single result was 13th place in Race 1 at the French round at Magny-Cours.

For 2010 Scassa joined the Ducati 1098R Team Supersonic Racing. The season was interrupted by a crash at Brno that fractured two metatarsals in his left foot, causing him to miss rounds in Australia and at Silverstone. Despite the disruption he improved significantly, ending the year 17th in the championship with 85 points.

Scassa moved to the Supersport World Championship for 2011, joining Team ParkinGO on a Yamaha YZF-R6. He delivered his strongest world-level season to that point, claiming three victories and finishing fifth in the championship standings. His campaign was briefly interrupted by a disqualification at the Misano round after officials ruled he had conducted an illegal test — his riding school had been operating at the circuit and, though the machinery used there was not the same R6 he raced, the WSS regulations did not allow the track to be used for any purpose without its designation as an official test venue.

He returned to the World Supersport Championship in 2013, now with team Intermoto Ponyexpres on a Kawasaki ZX-6R.

In September 2013 Scassa was called up to replace the injured Karel Abraham at the Cardion AB MotoGP team for the Aragon Grand Prix, making his debut in motorcycle racing's premier class. He finished 17th in the race. The call-up was then extended to cover the remainder of the 2013 season, giving him a handful of MotoGP starts.

For 2012 Scassa competed in the British Superbike Championship with Padgetts Racing on a Honda CBR1000RR. He adapted to unfamiliar circuits across the year, with a fourth-place finish at Assen standing as his season highlight. He completed the campaign 15th overall with 76 points.

In 2022 Scassa competed in the FIM Endurance World Championship in the superstock category with the Italian No Limits Motor Team. Alongside that competition work he has fulfilled the role of Ducati Corse test rider, contributing to the development of Ducati's racing machinery.

Luca Scassa represents the generation of Italian club and domestic champions who carved out sustained international careers without ever claiming a world title. His 2008 Italian Superbike crown remains his most significant competitive honour, while his flexibility across Superbike, Supersport, MotoGP, endurance, and domestic British racing reflects the adaptable career of a professional racer operating across the sport's various tiers.
