Monti Iblei Cup

The Monti Iblei Cup (Italian: Coppa Monti Iblei) is an annual hillclimb competition held on the hairpin road ascending Mount Arcibessi near Chiaramonte Gulfi in Sicily, Italy. One of the established events on the Sicilian hill speed calendar, the race counts toward the Trofeo Italiano Velocità Montagna Sud, the Sicilian Hill Speed Championship, and the Sicilian Hill Speed Championship for Historic Cars.

The route ascends the Hyblaean Mountains (Monti Iblei) through a succession of tight hairpin bends on Mount Arcibessi. In recent years the course was extended slightly, a change that brought the event within the qualification criteria for the regional and national championships it now supports, and that also improved access for competitors and spectators arriving from nearby towns including Ragusa, Modica, Vittoria, Monterosso Almo, and Giarratana. The finish line is reached via the city centre of Chiaramonte Gulfi, passing the Balcony of Sicily viewpoint, Corso Umberto, and Piazza Duomo. The start area is near Bar Pentagono at the Villaggio Gulfi shopping centre, with notable course points including the curve of the oil mill, the curve of the four chapels, the ring road, the curve of the forest barracks, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie.

The event has a documented history spanning several decades; a bibliography entry from 2007 titled "50 anni e non li dimostra" (published by the Automobile Club d'Italia of Ragusa) indicates a founding in or around the late 1950s. The 2020 edition was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most dominant recent competitor is Domenico Cubeda, who won eight consecutive absolute victories from 2014 through 2021, all in Osella machinery — initially the PA2000 and subsequently the FA30 Zytek. Giovanni Cassibba won back-to-back editions in 2004 and 2005 with an Osella BMW, while Salvatore Tavano won in 2009 and 2010 in a Tatuus Master. Luigi Bruccoleri claimed victories in 2007 (Osella PA21/S) and 2011 (Osella PA27). Franco Caruso ended Cubeda's era of dominance, winning in 2023 with a Nova Proto NP01/3000 and retaining the title in 2024 with a Nova Proto NP01 Zytek.
