Tech 3 is a French motorcycle racing team founded in 1990 by Hervé Poncharal, Guy Coulon, and Bernard Martignac, and for nearly two decades it served as one of the most prominent and successful satellite operations in MotoGP, running under a long-term partnership with Yamaha. Beginning in the 250 cc class before ascending to the premier class, Tech 3 earned a reputation as a genuinely competitive independent outfit capable of challenging factory-backed rivals.

The team entered racing in 1990 in the 250 cc category using Honda and then Suzuki machinery. By the end of the decade, Tech 3 had become a major force at that level, culminating in a dominant 2000 season in which their riders Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano finished first and second respectively in the 250 cc World Championship. In 1999, Tech 3 entered into a satellite partnership with Yamaha, beginning what would become an association lasting nearly twenty years. The team made the full transition to the premier class in 2001 with Jacque and Nakano aboard the YZR500. Towards the end of the 2002 season, Yamaha provided Tech 3 with access to the YZR-M1 prototype, a significant step in technical alignment between the satellite and factory sides.

Through the mid-2000s the team ran on Dunlop tyres during the 2006 and 2007 seasons before returning to Michelin in 2008. That season featured a high-profile rider pairing in Colin Edwards and James Toseland, both of whom were reigning two-time Superbike World Champions, illustrating the calibre of rider the team was able to attract as a leading independent.

Ben Spies replaced Toseland in 2010 and delivered a strong debut campaign, finishing sixth in the championship. The team also expanded into the Moto2 class when that category launched that year. In 2011, Spies was promoted to the factory Yamaha squad and was replaced by Cal Crutchlow, with Andrea Dovizioso later joining alongside Bradley Smith for 2013 and 2014.

During its years as Yamaha's premier satellite partner, Tech 3 achieved multiple podium finishes and was a consistent presence at the front of the independent runners' classification. The partnership demonstrated that a well-resourced satellite team, given close technical cooperation with a factory, could operate at the highest level of the sport rather than merely filling out the grid.

In 2019, Tech 3 ended its long association with Yamaha and aligned with KTM as their official satellite team, a move that reflected KTM's rapidly expanding MotoGP ambitions. The team recorded its first-ever premier-class race victory in 2020 at the Styrian Grand Prix in Austria, with Miguel Oliveira winning from the back of the grid — and repeated the feat at the season finale in Portugal. In mid-2022, the team announced a partnership with KTM's sister brand Gas Gas, racing under those colours from 2023. In June 2024, Tech 3 reverted to the KTM banner as Red Bull KTM Tech3, with Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales announced as riders for 2025. In 2025, a consortium led by Guenther Steiner acquired full ownership of the team, marking the start of a new ownership era from 2026 onward.
