Kimura founded Ruf Co., Ltd. in 2001, a company he still leads as CEO as of 2026. His business activities in the automotive sector provided the foundation for his entry into motorsport as both a driver and team principal. In February 2015, Kimura established CarGuy Racing, a Japanese GT racing outfit that would become central to his competitive career and serve as a platform for development in Asian GT racing. He later launched the SeaGuy venture in 2024, further diversifying his interests.
Kimura made his car racing debut in 2015 in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, recording a lone AM class win at Kuala Lumpur and finishing fifth in the championship standings. Over the following two seasons he made select appearances in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, Super Taikyu, and Blancpain GT Series Asia while growing CarGuy Racing's competitive program.
In 2018, Kimura and CarGuy Racing entered Super GT, recording a best result of 15th on debut at Okayama. That same year he also competed in select rounds of the Blancpain GT Series Asia. The end of 2018 brought his first major title: contesting the GT class of the 2018–19 Asian Le Mans Series, Kimura won all four races to secure the championship. He followed that by finishing fifth in the LMGTE Am class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019, then returned to the Asian Le Mans Series for 2019–20, winning at The Bend and finishing runner-up in points.
In 2020 Kimura made starts in the GT300 class of Super GT for X Works alongside an appearance at Le Mans for MR Racing. The 2021 season saw him win once in the Asian Le Mans Series at Abu Dhabi and make select GT300 appearances in Super GT for Pacific/CarGuy Racing, finishing as high as ninth at Autopolis.
Kimura's career expanded significantly in 2022 when he mounted a dual campaign in the European Le Mans Series and the newly relaunched GT World Challenge Asia. In ELMS he scored third-place finishes at Monza and Algarve, ending sixth in points despite missing one round. His GTWC Asia campaign was dominant: victories at Suzuka and Fuji, four additional podiums, and both the overall and Pro-Am titles made 2022 his most decorated season.
During 2022 he also raced in select Super GT GT300 rounds for Pacific CarGuy Racing and made a one-off FIA World Endurance Championship appearance at Fuji for Team Project 1.
Continuing with Kessel Racing for 2023, Kimura contested a dual FIA WEC and ELMS program. In WEC he took podiums at Sebring and Fuji in the LMGTE Am class, ending seventh in the standings. In ELMS he claimed his maiden series victory at Aragón, finishing fourth in the championship. He complemented this with outings in the Asian Le Mans Series and selected GT World Challenge Asia rounds for CarGuy Racing.
For 2024, Kimura switched to Akkodis ASP Team for his first full season in the newly introduced LMGT3 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship. His best result was eighth at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as he ended the year 27th in class. Concurrently, he continued with Kessel Racing in the European Le Mans Series, winning at Spa and Mugello to finish runner-up in the LMGT3 standings.
At the start of 2025 Kimura contested the final two rounds of the 2024–25 Asian Le Mans Series for CarGuy Racing, scoring a best result of sixth at Abu Dhabi. He then returned to the European Le Mans Series with Kessel Racing, taking two podiums including a second place at Barcelona to finish fifth in the championship. Kimura continued with Kessel Racing for his fifth full-time ELMS campaign in 2026, while also being set to compete in the European Le Mans Series that year.
Kimura represents a generation of Japanese gentleman drivers who have brought considerable personal investment and team-building acumen to international GT endurance racing. Through CarGuy Racing he has provided infrastructure and competition opportunities within Asian GT motorsport. His Asian Le Mans Series GT class championship and GT World Challenge Asia overall title stand as the peaks of his competitive record, while his sustained presence across ELMS and WEC reflects a long-term commitment to the upper tiers of endurance racing.
