Upon its founding in late 2009, WRT purchased three Audi R8 LMS race cars, becoming the official Belgian Audi motorsport importer. In 2010, the team achieved success in the Belcar Endurance Championship, securing wins at Circuit Zolder with François Verbist, Bert Longin, and Bill Bailly, and claiming both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships with Gregory Franchi and Anthony Kumpen. In 2011, WRT expanded its program and won the Spa 24 Hours with Franchi sharing the drive with Timo Scheider and Mattias Ekström.
Between 2012 and 2018, WRT continued to expand, competing in the FIA GT World Championship and later the Blancpain GT Series. They won both the Teams' and Drivers' Championship of the FIA GT Series in 2013. In 2014, WRT won both the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championship in the Blancpain GT Series and the Blancpain Endurance Series, adding a second Spa 24 Hours victory with Laurens Vanthoor, René Rast and Markus Winkelhock. Further success followed in 2015 with wins in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and the 12 Hours of Sepang, alongside continued dominance in the Blancpain GT Series.
In 2016, WRT entered Touring car racing, running Volkswagen Golfs in the TCR International Series under the Leopard Racing badge, winning the Drivers' titles in both 2016 and 2017 with Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay respectively. In 2018, WRT won the Bathurst 12 Hour race at their first attempt.
In 2019, WRT entered the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) as a customer team running two Audi RS5 Turbo DTMs. Jonathan Aberdein and Pietro Fittipaldi were the team’s drivers, with Aberdein finishing tenth in the championship as the highest-ranked rookie. In August 2019 WRT won the 2019 Suzuka) 10 Hours. For the 2020 DTM season, WRT fielded Ed Jones and Fabio Scherer, later adding Ferdinand Habsburg.
Following Audi’s exit from DTM, WRT shifted focus to LMP2 racing, entering the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series with an Oreca 07 in 2021. The team achieved immediate success, winning the LMP2 class at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans with car #31, driven by Robin Frijns, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi. WRT secured both the Drivers' and Teams' titles in the FIA WEC and ELMS in 2021.
WRT continued to compete in LMP2, winning four out of six races in the 2023 FIA WEC, ultimately claiming the LMP2 championship. In August 2022, WRT announced a partnership with BMW Motorsport, switching their GT racing program to BMW machinery and securing a factory LMDh program in the FIA WEC. In January 2023, WRT won the Dubai 24 Hour for a third time, marking the first major victory with BMW. They also secured a 1–2 win at the Kyalami-historic)-grand-prix-circuit) 9 Hours.
In 2024, WRT entered the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class with two BMW M Hybrid V8s, alongside two BMW M4 GT3s in the LMGT3 class. The team secured their first podium finish in the Hypercar class at the 6 Hours of Fuji, finishing second. In the LMGT3 class, WRT scored a 1–2 win at Imola. For 2025, the team continued its partnership with BMW, with Kevin Magnussen joining Dries Vanthoor and Raffaele Marciello in the #15 Hypercar. WRT also unveiled new facilities at Bierset in May 2025. In 2026, WRT will expand its Hypercar program to include the IMSA SportsCar Championship in America.
