Origins
Team WRT was established in late 2009, initially functioning as the official Belgian Audi motorsport importer. The team purchased three Audi R8 LMS race cars to begin competing in various championships.
Breakthrough
In 2010, WRT quickly achieved success, winning both the Belcar Drivers' and Teams' Championships with drivers Gregory Franchi and Anthony Kumpen. They also secured a ten-hour endurance race victory at Circuit Zolder with François Verbist, Bert Longin, and Bill Bailly. The team continued to build momentum in 2011, winning the Spa 24 Hours with Franchi, Timo Scheider, and Mattias Ekström.
Peak Seasons
WRT continued its expansion in 2012, competing in the FIA GT World Championship and finishing third in the Teams standings, claiming three race wins. In 2013, the team won both the Teams' and Drivers' Championship of the FIA GT Series. 2014 marked a particularly successful year, with WRT winning both the Teams' and Drivers' Championships in the Blancpain GT Series and the Blancpain Endurance Series, alongside securing the Teams' Championship in the Blancpain Sprint Series. They added a second Spa 24 Hours victory in 2014 with Laurens Vanthoor, René Rast, and Markus Winkelhock.
The team maintained its dominance in 2015, winning both Teams' and Drivers' championships in the Blancpain GT Series, as well as the Sprint and Endurance Series titles. They also achieved a significant victory at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the Audi R8 LMS (GT3). In 2016, WRT expanded into touring car racing, competing in the TCR International Series with Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay, winning the Drivers' titles in both 2016 and 2017.
Defining Incidents
In 2018, WRT achieved its first Bathurst 12 Hour race win with the Audi R8 LMS (GT3). In 2019, the team entered the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) as a customer team running two Audi RS5 Turbo DTMs, with drivers Jonathan Aberdein and Pietro Fittipaldi. While they didn't secure a podium finish, Aberdein impressed as the highest-ranked rookie. In August 2019, WRT won the Suzuka) 10 Hours.
Beyond the Primary Series
WRT expanded into LMP2 racing in 2021, entering an Oreca 07 in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series. They secured the LMP2 class win at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans with the #31 car, driven by Robin Frijns, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi, and ultimately won both the FIA WEC and ELMS LMP2 titles. In 2024, WRT began competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship with BMW.
Honours
Team WRT has accumulated numerous championship titles, including multiple wins in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, Sprint Cup, and overall championships. They also secured LMP2 titles in the FIA WEC and ELMS in 2021. In January 2023, WRT won the Dubai 24 Hour for the third time. In May 2025, the team unveiled its new facilities at Bierset, Belgium, consolidating its operations.
