ThorSport Racing began as SealMaster Racing in 1996. The team is owned by Duke and Rhonda Thorson.
In 1998, the team—then known as SealMaster Racing—fielded the No. 8 truck at Mesa Marin for Jerry Cook, who started 34th but retired early. The following year, Joe Ruttman drove the No. 8 truck at Phoenix. The No. 13 truck debuted in 2004 with Tina Gordon as the driver, backed by sponsorships from Vassarette and Microtel.
Terry Cook drove the No. 88 truck for ThorSport from 1996 to 2000, securing his first career victory at Flemington in 1998. Matt Crafton took over the No. 88 in 2001, and by 2005, he had earned his first career pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. In 2009, Johnny Sauter joined the team, winning at Las Vegas and achieving ThorSport’s first 1-2 finish with teammate Crafton. Sauter continued to be a strong contender, earning his second win at Kansas in 2010 and finishing third in points.
The 2013 season marked a turning point for the team, with Crafton winning his first championship after completing every lap of the season. He followed this success with a second consecutive championship in 2014. Ben Rhodes joined the team in 2017, winning his first race at Las Vegas. In 2021, Rhodes secured his first Truck Series championship, winning the first two races of the season at Daytona and the Daytona Road Course. Ty Majeski joined the team in 2022, consistently running at the front and securing wins at Bristol and Homestead, ultimately reaching the Championship 4. In 2024, Majeski clinched his first Truck Series championship at Phoenix.
In 2009, Sauter and Matt Crafton achieved a 1-2 finish at Las Vegas. In 2010, Sauter earned a win at Kansas after a late-race incident with Ron Hornaday. At Iowa in 2019, Johnny Sauter was parked by NASCAR for intentionally wrecking Austin Hill under caution, resulting in a one-race suspension. Later that year, an engine failure at Las Vegas dashed Sauter’s playoff hopes; the issue, affecting multiple trucks, was traced to detonation in Ilmor's NT1 engines. In 2023, Crafton was involved in a physical altercation with Nick Sanchez following an on-track incident at Talladega, resulting in a $25,000 fine from NASCAR.
ThorSport Racing briefly competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008, fielding the No. 13 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Shelby Howard at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park and Bristol. The team also participated in the ARCA Racing Series, with Jeb Burton making his debut with the team in 2014 after being released from Turner Scott Motorsports. Frank Kimmel drove the No. 44 Toyota Camry in 2012 and secured his tenth championship with the team, becoming the all-time wins leader in ARCA history with 80 victories. Matt Crafton also made a single ARCA start for the team in 2012 at Lucas Oil Raceway.
