Toyota GR Supra GT4

The Toyota GR Supra GT4 is a GT4-specification customer racing car developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) from the fifth-generation GR Supra road car. Designed for the European GT4 racing series and other GT4-class competitions worldwide, the GT4 was first shown as a concept at the March 2019 Geneva Motor Show and entered production later that same year, becoming a popular customer racing platform across multiple continents.

The GR Supra GT4 Concept debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, previewing Toyota's intent to support customer motorsport with the revived Supra nameplate. It was built as a racing study model targeting GT4-class competition and featured reduced weight, upgraded brakes, upgraded suspension, the addition of a rear wing, and a full roll cage compared to the road car.

Toyota unveiled the production-ready GR Supra GT4 in October 2019. The production car was powered by a version of the BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine rated at 320 kW (429 hp). The GT4 was conceived as a customer racing vehicle โ€” purchasable and raceable by teams without any factory-backing requirement โ€” in line with the GT4 category's ethos of accessible, cost-controlled motorsport.

The GR Supra GT4 uses a seven-speed automatic transmission, differing from the eight-speed unit found in standard road-going models. It is equipped with an Akrapovic exhaust system and features an FIA-standard racing seat with a six-point harness. Inside, a carbon fibre instrument cluster replaces the road car's standard unit.

Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers provide stopping power, paired with KW dampers for suspension. The car rides on OZ wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero racing tyres. A Magneti Marelli engine management system, motorsport ABS, and a data logger are standard fitment. A fire extinguisher system is also included as standard, while an illuminated car number is available as an option.

The roll cage and rear wing first seen on the GT4 Concept were carried over to the production version.

Sales of the GR Supra GT4 began in Europe in March 2020, followed by North America in August 2020 and Japan and Southeast Asia in October 2020, making it available to customer teams across the major GT4 competition regions.

In October 2022, Toyota released an updated version of the GT4, named the GR Supra GT4 EVO. The update concentrated on engine performance, handling, and braking. The engine received increased power output, an updated torque curve delivering maximum torque of up to 660 Nm, and improved cooling. The brake system design was overhauled, new ABS settings were introduced, and the KW dampers and anti-roll bar specification were updated for higher cornering speeds and improved handling. Existing GT4 owners were offered the option to upgrade their cars to GT4 EVO specification. The GT4 EVO made its motorsport debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona. Sales of the GT4 EVO began in October 2022 at a price of โ‚ฌ186,000.

By the end of 2022, more than 50 GR Supra GT4 cars had been deployed in GT4-class races globally. The car had accumulated victories in 11 national and international GT4 championships and recorded over 100 podium finishes across various series. In August 2022, the GR Supra GT4 claimed its 50th class win in a major championship, achieved at the GT World Challenge Asia event at Sportsland Sugo in Japan.

The success of the GR Supra GT4 in customer racing had a direct influence on the road car's final model variant. The A90 Final Edition โ€” the last version of the fifth-generation GR Supra, limited to 300 units globally โ€” incorporated parts sourced from and inspired by the GT4 race car. These included a carbon fibre front spoiler, canards, a removable bonnet duct, a swan-neck rear wing, the rear subframe from the race car, and additional chassis bracing. The Final Edition thus closed the loop between the road car and the race car that had been derived from it.

The GR Supra GT4 programme demonstrated Toyota Gazoo Racing's commitment to customer motorsport globally, building on the broader Super GT and NASCAR campaigns run in parallel with the same Supra nameplate.
