After Leavine Family Racing announced the sale of its assets in the summer of 2020, Justin Marks placed a bid. Although LFR eventually sold to Spire Motorsports, Marks confirmed the creation of his own team, Trackhouse, on August 14, 2020. He brought in former Dale Earnhardt Incorporated executive Ty Norris to help run the team. Marks aimed to be an unconventional team owner, planning to use his platform to advocate for STEM education. On September 17, 2024, it was reported that Ty Norris left Trackhouse Racing to join Kaulig Racing.
The team is owned by Trackhouse Entertainment Group, a venture of Justin Marks and Avenue Sports Fund. Grammy Award–winning rapper Armando Christian "Pitbull" Pérez was previously a partial owner, but announced on February 14, 2025, that his partnership and ownership status had been terminated.
On January 9, 2023, a consortium including Trackhouse, DEJ Management, Jeff Burton Autosports, Inc., and Kevin Harvick Incorporated purchased the CARS Tour.
On June 10, 2021, Marks indicated that the team might expand to a two-car operation in 2022. On June 30, 2021, Trackhouse announced its purchase of the NASCAR operations of Chip Ganassi Racing, acquiring its two charters for the No. 1 and No. 42 teams, confirming the two-car expansion for 2022. On September 16, Trackhouse signed a multi-year deal with 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Zane Smith. As part of a partnership, Smith drove Spire Motorsports' third team in 2024 and was expected to join Trackhouse full-time in a third team in 2025, though he was later released from his contract. On January 11, 2024, Trackhouse announced a multi-year deal with Connor Zilisch, which includes him running in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, CARS Tour, Trans-Am Series, and IMSA in 2024 and 2025.
The organization currently fields three full-time Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 cars: the No. 1 for Ross Chastain, the No. 88 for Connor Zilisch, and the No. 97 for Shane van Gisbergen.
Ross Chastain has driven the No. 1 car for Trackhouse Racing since 2022. He was announced as the driver for the team's second car on August 3, 2021.
Chastain's 2022 season began with a 40th place finish at the Daytona 500 and a 29th place finish at Fontana. He then achieved a third place finish at Las Vegas and two runner-up finishes at Phoenix and Atlanta. Chastain secured his first career Cup Series win and Trackhouse's first victory at COTA. A month later, he claimed his second victory at Talladega. At the 2022 NASCAR All-Star Race, Chastain finished 22nd after colliding with Kyle Busch and going airborne, also taking Chase Elliott out of the race. At the Indianapolis road course, Chastain crossed the line second but was penalized to 27th place for crossing the access road during the final restart. Chastain made the Championship 4 after the "Hail Melon" move at Martinsville, where he drove along the outside wall at full throttle to overtake Denny Hamlin and finish fifth. He was credited with a fourth-place finish after Brad Keselowski's disqualification. Chastain finished third at the Phoenix finale and achieved a career-best second place in the points standings.
Chastain started the 2023 season with a ninth-place finish at the Daytona 500. After finishing fifth at Kansas, he was confronted by Noah Gragson over a racing incident, leading to Gragson shoving Chastain, who retaliated with a punch. Chastain earned his first win of the season at Nashville. On July 11, Anheuser-Busch announced a multi-year sponsorship deal with the No. 1 car starting in 2024. Chastain was eliminated from the Round of 12 at the Charlotte Roval but won the season finale at Phoenix, finishing ninth in the points standings.
The 2024 season began for Chastain with a 21st place finish at the Daytona 500. He was winless during the regular season and missed the playoffs after Harrison Burton and Chase Briscoe secured wins. Chastain won during the Round of 12 at Kansas. Following the Martinsville playoff race, the No. 1 team was docked fifty owner and driver points, and Chastain and the team were each fined US$100,000 for race manipulation, involving a blockade with Austin Dillon to help William Byron make the Championship 4. Crew chief Phil Surgen was suspended for the Phoenix finale.
Chastain started the 2025 season with a 40th place DNF at the Daytona 500. He scored his first win of the season at the Coca-Cola 600.
Connor Zilisch made his Cup Series debut in the No. 87 car at Austin on January 23, 2025. He also appeared at the 2025 Coca-Cola 600 and had additional starts scheduled for the 2025 season through his sponsor Red Bull. The team withdrew the entry from the Watkins Glen International race after Zilisch suffered a broken collarbone from a fall while celebrating an Xfinity Series win.
On August 24, 2024, Trackhouse announced that they had secured a third charter from Stewart–Haas Racing and that Shane van Gisbergen would drive the No. 88 entry for 2025.
Van Gisbergen started the 2025 season with a 33rd place finish at the Daytona 500. He struggled during the regular season, with only one top-ten finish in the first fifteen races. Despite setbacks, van Gisbergen secured a win and a playoff spot at Mexico. Three weeks later, he earned his second win of the season at the Chicago Street Course, followed by Sonoma a week later for his third. Despite being eliminated after the Round of 16, van Gisbergen scored his fifth consecutive road course win at the Charlotte Roval.
Connor Zilisch was announced as the new driver of the No. 88 car for 2026 after a dominant Xfinity Series run in 2025.
On May 24, 2022, Trackhouse announced the creation of Project91, a part-time entry designed to put international drivers behind the wheel in the Cup Series. The team planned to compete in at least one race in 2022, with additional races in 2023. Two days later, 2007 Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen was announced as the driver for the No. 91 car at Watkins Glen.
Räikkönen finished 37th at Watkins Glen after crashing on lap 45. In 2023, Räikkönen returned to the No. 91 at COTA, finishing 29th.
On May 18, 2023, the team announced that New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen would make his NASCAR debut at the inaugural Grant Park 220 at the Chicago Street Course. After qualifying third, van Gisbergen won the race, becoming the first driver in the modern era of NASCAR, and the first in sixty years, to win his debut race. On July 19, 2023, Trackhouse Racing announced van Gisbergen would make his second start of the 2023 season at the Indianapolis Road Course.
On January 6, 2025, the team announced that Brazilian IndyCar driver Hélio Castroneves would drive the No. 91 and run the 2025 Daytona 500. Under NASCAR's "Open Exemption Provisional" rule, Castroneves was guaranteed a starting position.
Shane van Gisbergen was reunited with the No. 97 in 2026, a number he previously used in Supercars, winning three titles, and during his Xfinity Series run with Kaulig Racing in 2024. Van Gisbergen started the 2026 season with a 30th place finish at the Daytona 500. He scored his first win of the season at Watkins Glen.
Daniel Suárez drove the No. 99 car for Trackhouse Racing from 2021 to 2025. On October 7, 2020, the team announced Suárez as their full-time driver for 2021. The team leased a charter from Spire Motorsports for 2021 and aligned with Richard Childress Racing for engine provision and campus operations. Marks chose the No. 99 to honor Carl Edwards. On November 13, former JR Motorsports crew chief Travis Mack was announced as the No. 99's crew chief.
Suárez scored the team's first top-five finish with a fourth place at the Bristol dirt race. With four top-ten finishes, Suárez finished the 2021 season 25th in points. In February 2022, Trackhouse announced Freeway Insurance as a primary sponsor for Suárez for five events. Suárez began the 2022 season with an 18th place finish at the Daytona 500, followed by a fourth place at Fontana, ninth at Phoenix, and fourth at Atlanta. On May 22, Suárez won the NASCAR Open for the second time, earning a spot in the All-Star Race where he finished fifth. At Sonoma, he became the first Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race. Suárez was eliminated in the Round of 12 after finishing 36th at the Charlotte Roval, concluding the season with a career-best tenth place in the points standings.
Suárez started the 2023 season with a seventh-place finish at the Daytona 500. On March 29, he was fined US$50,000 for intentionally bumping Alex Bowman on pit road after the COTA race. With no wins, three top-fives, and ten top-ten finishes, Suárez missed the playoffs and finished nineteenth in the points standings.
The 2024 season began for Suárez with a 34th place DNF at the Daytona 500. A week later, he won his second career Cup Series race at Atlanta in a three-wide photo finish against Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch.
On July 1, 2025, it was announced that Suárez and Trackhouse mutually agreed to part ways after the 2025 season.
In 2024, Trackhouse began signing developmental contracts with drivers.
Former developmental drivers include Zane Smith, who was signed to a Cup Series contract in 2024 and drove for Spire Motorsports before parting ways with Trackhouse at the end of the season. Shane van Gisbergen was signed in 2024 to compete in the Cup Series and Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing, ARCA Menards Series with Pinnacle Racing Group, and select late model races, before being promoted to a full-time Cup ride in 2025 and extended for 2026. Connor Zilisch was signed on a multi-year deal in 2024 to run races in the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports, Craftsman Truck Series with Spire Motorsports, ARCA Menards Series, CARS Tour, Global MX-5 Cup with BSI Racing, and IMSA SportsCar Championship with Era Motorsport. He was promoted to a full-time Xfinity Series ride in 2025 with JR Motorsports, and then to a full-time Cup Series ride for 2026.
