Piria began karting in 2003 in her native Italy, working up through the junior ranks to reach the KF3 category by 2008. In 2009 she graduated to single-seaters, taking part-time entries in Italian Formula 2000 Light and Formula Renault 2.0 with Tomcat Racing, contesting six and two races respectively. She also appeared at the Formula Lista Junior opening round at Dijon.
In 2010 Piria switched to the newly launched Formula Abarth series in Italy, still racing with Tomcat Racing. Her best result was a fourteenth-place finish at Magione, leaving her 34th in the series standings. She remained in Formula Abarth for a second season in 2011, moving to Prema Powerteam as the series expanded into both European and Italian championships. She registered five points-scoring finishes in the Italian Series and three in the European Series, ending the year fifteenth and eighteenth in the respective standings.
Piria made her GP3 Series debut in 2012 with Trident Racing, which had taken over Addax Team's entry. She completed the season without scoring championship points, her best result being a twelfth-place finish. In 2013 she raced in the European F3 Open with BVM Racing and finished tenth in the championship standings.
In 2014 Piria crossed to North America to contest the Pro Mazda Championship with JDC MotorSports, a series forming part of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder. She was one of three female drivers competing in that season's championship, gaining experience on American circuits.
Piria applied for the inaugural W Series in 2019, the all-female single-seater championship created to give women a competitive pathway towards the top of motorsport. She successfully passed both the first selection phase and the final evaluation, earning one of the eighteen places on the grid across the six-event calendar โ the only Italian driver to qualify for that inaugural season.
Parallel to her racing activities, Piria built a significant presence in Italian motorsport broadcasting. She worked as a commentator on Formula E electric car racing for the television channel Mediaset. In 2021 she served as a presenter on the Italia 1 automotive programme Drive Up. From 2024 she has been a presenter of Formula One races on Sky Sport Italy, succeeding Federica Masolin in that role.
Piria's trajectory โ from karting in Umbria to the GP3 grid, Pro Mazda in the United States, and ultimately the W Series โ reflects the challenging path faced by female drivers seeking competitive opportunities in global motorsport. Her subsequent shift into high-profile broadcasting, particularly the Sky Sport Formula One presenting role, has kept her central to Italian motorsport culture. She stands as one of the more visible Italian female figures in the sport, combining front-line experience as a competitor with a sustained media presence.
