In 2011, Abril began his racing career in the SEAT León Supercopa France series for Team Speedcar, finishing 15th in the point standings with six top-ten finishes. He returned to the same series in 2012, achieving two race wins at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours and Circuito de Navarra, ultimately finishing fourth in the points standings.
For 2013, Abril transitioned to the French GT Championship, driving an Audi R8 LMS Ultra for Team Speed Car. He secured his first pole position and race win of the season at Spa-Francorchamps, followed by a third-place finish at the same track. Abril also made a one-off appearance in the Blancpain Endurance Series at Circuit Paul Ricard, finishing 17th. Back-to-back wins at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours helped him to a fourth-place finish in the French GT Championship points standings.
The 2014 season saw Abril competing in both the Championnat de France series for Team Speed Car and the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup for Belgian Audi Club Team WRT, though he finished 14th in both point standings.
Abril’s breakthrough came in 2015, driving for Bentley Team HTP in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup and the Blancpain Endurance Series. He secured four wins, eight podium finishes, and ten top-fives in the Sprint Cup, winning the 2015 Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup championship with teammate Maximilian Buhk. He also finished tenth in the 2015 Sepang 12 Hours for Bentley Team M-Sport.
The 2016 season proved less successful, with Abril failing to reach the podium in either the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup or the Blancpain Endurance Series, finishing 25th and 24th respectively. He also participated in a single Intercontinental GT Challenge race at Spa-Francorchamps, finishing 14th.
In 2017, Abril made his debut in the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, finishing 12th overall and fifth in class driving a Bentley Continental GT3. He continued in the Blancpain Endurance Series, finishing second in the standings after a win at Circuit Paul Ricard, and joined the Pirelli World Challenge, finishing 13th in points with a best result of sixth.
Abril returned to the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in 2018, but a tire issue resulted in an early retirement and a 46th-place finish. In 2019, Abril, alongside Andy Soucek and Maxime Soulet, achieved a career-best sixth-place finish at Bathurst. He also won three times in Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe, finishing third in the championship, and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Proton Competition, finishing 36th overall.
For 2021, Abril joined the DTM as the championship transitioned to GT3 regulations, driving for Mercedes-AMG Team HRT. He took pole position for the first race of the season, but was later disqualified from both races and qualifying due to fuel irregularities, losing the points earned from pole. He finished the season 14th.
In 2022, Abril switched to McLaren machinery with JP Motorsport in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. He also competed in the Asian Le Mans Series, finishing fourth overall with AF Corse Ferrari, and achieved pole position in GTE Am at the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans.
After a year with Lamborghini-affiliated Iron Lynx in Le Mans Cup, Abril became an official AF Corse driver in 2024, finishing third in the International GT Open and securing a podium finish at the 2025 24 Hours of Spa with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Alessio Rovera.
On 3 April 2026, Abril announced his retirement from professional motorsport.
