Vincent Noël Renaud Capillaire (born 4 February 1976) secured the 2014 Proto title in the V de V Challenge Endurance Series, won the 2019 Ultimate Cup Series Prototype Challenge in LMP3, and finished second in the LMP2 class at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans. He is currently set to compete in the European Endurance Prototype Cup for Graff Racing.

Origins

Capillaire began his car racing career in 1997, competing in Formula Renault Campus France, and continued in the main Formula Renault series the following year.

Breakthrough

After a decade away from racing, Capillaire returned in 2008, racing for Asia Racing Team in the first two rounds of Formula Asia 2.0. He then made a single appearance in the Formula Le Mans Cup in 2009. In 2010, Capillaire joined Hope Polevision Racing to compete in the FLM class of the Le Mans Series, achieving a best result of second place at Le Castellet.

Peak seasons

A season with Le Duigou Racing in the Racecar Euro Series followed, before Capillaire’s return to racing in 2013 in the V de V Challenge Endurance Series. Driving for TFT Racing, he finished runner-up in the points standings. The following year, he secured four wins and a further podium finish to claim the Proto title with a race to spare. In 2014, Capillaire also raced for Sébastien Loeb Racing in all but one race of the European Le Mans Series, and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He won at Estoril and finished on the podium at Imola during the ELMS season, ending the year fourth in the LMP2 standings.

In 2015, Capillaire joined Signatech Alpine for a season in the FIA World Endurance Championship, racing in the first six races and achieving a best result of second at Fuji before being replaced by Tom Dillmann. He returned to the European Le Mans Series with SO24! By Lombard Racing in 2016, finishing on the podium at Silverstone and racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the team’s bankruptcy and subsequent withdrawal from the ELMS season cut his campaign short.

Defining incidents

During the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans, while racing for Algarve Pro Racing in LMP2, Capillaire inadvertently caused the retirement of the No.7 Toyota. He gave Kamui Kobayashi the thumbs-up signal at the pit lane exit, leading Kobayashi to run a red light and damage his clutch. In 2019, while qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Graff in LMP2, teammate Tristan Gommendy’s pole position laps were deleted after Capillaire failed to stop for a weight check at the scrutineering light.

Beyond the primary series

Capillaire also competed in the Ultimate Cup Series Prototype Challenge for Wimmer Werk Motorsport in 2019, winning four races to secure the LMP3 title. He continued with Graff for the following two seasons, racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in LMP2 in both years, and in the European Le Mans Series in LMP3 in 2020 and LMP2 Pro-Am in 2021. He has also participated in select rounds of the European Endurance Prototype Cup across the following three seasons, racing in LMP3 in the first two and then making a one-off appearance in NP02 in 2025 before returning to the series with Graff Racing the following year.

Racing record

Capillaire has been noted as a guest driver at times, making him ineligible for championship points in those instances. His complete racing results are available for the European Le Mans Series, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
