Wayne Boyd (born 25 October 1990) is a British racing driver from County Antrim, Northern Ireland, who rose to prominence through an outstanding career in Formula Ford before branching into American open-wheel racing and later endurance competition. His record in Formula Ford โ€” including multiple festival victories and a dominant championship campaign โ€” established him as one of the most gifted exponents of the discipline in the 2000s and 2010s.

Boyd began karting in September 2001 in the cadet class, finishing in the top ten in his first year of the Northern Irish Championship. He contested the Five Nations Championship at Nutts Corner that same year, placing fifth. By 2004 he was winning championships: he took the Ulster Championship at Nutts Corner and the Five Nations Championship. In 2005, racing for Maranello, he placed first in the Ulster Cup and second in the Northern Ireland Karting Association standings. He continued winning Ulster titles in 2006 racing with Intrepid Karts.

Boyd stepped into Formula Ford 1600 in 2007 and won the Northern Irish FF1600 Championship in his debut season, earning the Novice of the Year award. During that campaign he set new track records on his first visits to Knockhill, Mondello Park, Brands Hatch during the Formula Ford Festival, and Silverstone during the Walter Hayes Trophy โ€” a remarkable series of maiden-visit achievements that signalled exceptional natural speed.

The 2008 season was the defining chapter of Boyd's early career. Racing for Jamun Racing in the British Formula Ford Championship, he won 13 of 25 races, sat on pole for 15 rounds, and reached the podium 20 times. The championship was his. In the same year he won the Formula Ford Festival Duratec class. His performance earned him recognition as one of the British Racing Drivers' Club Superstars and a nomination for the BRDC McLaren Autosport Award.

In 2009, Boyd moved to the British Formula Three Championship with T-Sport. He won a race at Donington Park, starting outside the top ten and scything through the field in the rain on slick tyres to take victory โ€” a display of wet-weather bravery that became one of the signature moments of his career. At the Macau Grand Prix that year he survived a dramatic crash, walking away after his car came to rest upside down. He finished twelfth in the British F3 points.

Financial pressure constrained his 2010 programme. Boyd made only two one-off appearances in British F3, at Hockenheimring for Sino Vision Racing and at the F3 Masters event at Zandvoort, where he qualified twenty-fourth and finished eighth in difficult weather.

In 2011 Boyd signed with Belardi Auto Racing for the U.S. F2000 National Championship. Despite the last-minute nature of the deal, he claimed two wins โ€” including one on the oval at Milwaukee Mile โ€” six podiums, and third place in the championship standings behind Petri Suvanto and Spencer Pigot. He returned to Belardi for two event weekends in 2012 at Baltimore and Virginia International Raceway, posting a third and a second-place finish respectively.

Boyd subsequently competed in international endurance categories including the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series, IMSA SportsCar Championship, and the FIA World Endurance Championship, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also won the Walter Hayes Trophy in 2014 and claimed a second Formula Ford Festival victory in 2015, underscoring his enduring mastery of the discipline that first brought him to prominence.
