The 2011 changes to Le Mans Prototype rules aimed to reduce costs, rendering the Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S obsolete and reclassifying the Zytek 09SC as an LMP1 car. Zytek responded by developing the Z11SN and establishing a partnership with NISMO to utilize the Nissan VK45DE engine – a 4.5 litre naturally-aspirated V8 producing approximately 450 hp in LMP2 specification.
Greaves Motorsport was the sole team to enter a Z11SN in its debut season, their chassis originally a Zytek 07S. The car achieved immediate success, winning the LMP2 class (and finishing third overall) at the 6 Hours of Castellet, driven by Karim Ojjeh, Gary Chalandon, and Tom Kimber-Smith. This success continued throughout the year, culminating in a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the LMP2 Team’s Championship title in the Le Mans Series for Greaves Motorsport. Three new chassis were built at the end of the season following the retirement of the original.
In 2012, Jota Sport entered a Z11SN in the European Le Mans Series, finishing eighth in class at the 6 Hours of Castellet. Greaves Motorsport fielded two Z11SN chassis in the ELMS, and both teams participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Greaves No. 42 car featured former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle, alongside his son Alex and Lucas Ordóñez, finishing eighth in class. Greaves’ other entry finished fifth, while the Jota Sport car did not finish. Greaves Motorsport finished third in the ELMS LMP2 class, with Jota Sport tenth.
In 2013, both Greaves Motorsport and Jota Sport continued to compete in the European Le Mans Series with their Z11SN chassis. Jota Sport secured a victory at the 6 Hours of Silverstone. Caterham Motorsport entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time, utilizing a Z11SN with drivers Alexander Rossi, Tom Kimber-Smith, and Eric Lux, in a joint venture with Greaves Motorsport. Greaves also entered a Z11SN driven by Jann Mardenborough, Lucas Ordóñez, and Michael Krumm, while Jota Sport entered a Z11SN with Simon Dolan, Oliver Turvey, and Lucas Luhr. The Greaves Motorsport entry achieved the best result of the three, with Mardenborough, Ordóñez, and Krumm finishing fourth in the LMP2 category.
Jota Sport achieved a significant milestone in 2014, winning the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with their Z11SN chassis.
Following the purchase of Zytek by Continental AG and the establishment of Gibson Technology, the Z11SN was substantially developed into the Gibson 015S for the 2015 season. Jota Sport finished second in the LMP2 class and tenth overall at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans with the updated car, finishing 48 seconds behind the class-winning KCMG Oreca. In 2016, Strakka Racing achieved fourth place in the LMP2 class and eighth overall at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans using the Gibson 015S, marking the highest finish for the prototype in the race.
